Solved Physical memory issue

I'm running windows 7 x64 and I'm having problems with ram. laptop is about a month old so I cant understand what's the problem. as it says in screenshot, I've got 4GB RAM installed. however I'm wondering why is the only 2628MB available instead of 4096.
hopefully you guys can help me out. thanks in advance

Available is the sum of standby and free.

You are using around 1400 and have around 2600 available. That's about 4000 total.

Looks OK to me.

yeh my bad. formed my question wrong. what i wanted to know is, why is there so much memory used for Standby. it feels like my laptop is running way too slow, same as if i only had 2gb ram

As I understand Windows 7 memory management, Windows has preloaded some data into standby RAM that it expects might be used soon. If that RAM instead needs to be used, that data will be unloaded and the RAM formerly in standby will be used by that more immediate process.

It's not as if standby RAM is "unavailable".

Slow running could be due to something else.

alright it has to be something else then. however i still cant understand why would an old game like max payne 1 give me an error of not meeting system requirements. it says i need more RAM to run the game which is kinda funny

Its the game itself giving the error as it does not understand whats being reported.

Vampire the Masquerade does the same thing on a Win7 x64 system with more than 2GB RAM.


How to fix, depends and Im not sure about Max Payne.
You can try running the game in compatability mode for vista or XP.

If that doesnt work it may require a .ini tweak, or a patch.

tried to run it in other compatibility mode already but wont work. will try patch now. anyways thanks

Vampire Masquerade required a unofficial fan patch.

Im not exactly sure what your particualr game will require, but it may be worth checking out the games official forum.
There may even be some official patch for it.
