Pin Open Windows

Since I kind of feel it's my Civic Duty to ask really stupid questions that make everybody else feel intelligent, I'll do just that again.

1) We all resize windows for easier viewing on even large monitors.

2) Well, when you switch from one window to another, the window you switch from closes.

3) So there you go, reopening windows that closed by themselves.

4) Anyway to tell these windows to stay open, i.e. "pinned" to a specific locale on the screen?

Hiyya IG mate as Brink says "The only stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked" - but I am tad confused as to what windows you are referring to can you please elaborate on that a bit mate.

Oh and system specs would be good too

OK, but that's all the personal information I'm revealing.

System:

Win 7 64 bit Ultimate (Note: The problem I am pointing up relates to all Windows versions.)
ASUS Crosshair V (also another computer with a Crosshair IV) motherboard
AMD 6-core Black Edition (both computers)
16 GB DDR3 Corsair RAM (both computers)

Great you have two machines and well the specs mate I am too old to be chasing anything and certainly can't afford it LOL!!

Now the windows IG (a short nick name so I can save on typing) we need to know what windows you have open - do you mean Google tabs or word doc to Google to email windows? as I can have ten Googles open three Word docs going and email running at once with no problems.

if you alt-tab, they should stay open when switching. same with Win+Tab.

Are you meaning the resizing goes away? or the whole window closes? or the window is minimized?

Well IG if this is what you were having problems with then thats ok like I said before the only stupid question is ...... it is no problem we all get a bit foxed at times

Well that is what life is all about IG - tolerance and a bit of empathy goes a along way. Thia world is full of those who do not see it that way and hence the mess it is in.

Glad to have you among us here in SF one day you will be helping someone even if it is encouraging openness and giving examples of your experiences that may help their predicament.

I started here because the previous forum I was a member of had more than it fair share of people who seemed to take great delight in making one look rather simple and even flaming them to the point where they felt useless. Not the case in here and I thoroughly enjoy this forum and consider it to be probably the best there is.

John - don't feel averse to stating your name because it in itself makes this place that much more friendly and personal. I for one would never take advantage of knowing what you or anyone else is called - we are all friends in here just think of them as strangers who are friends who you have yet to meet

Hey, John, I'm Dennis and I believe we're about the same age.

Anyway, I've had much the same experience with groups - not so much by myself being the receiver of vitriol but seeing others whose questions were typically responded to with "you idiot, don't you know anything about computers. You shouldn't even own one."

I was even banned for life from one such forum when I "put the wood" to some troll who had literally ripped the heart out of some poor newbie. When I saw that my IP was banned, I kind of leaned back and chuckled to myself. "Well, my job is done", so to speak.

For what it's worth, I have been using computers since DOS, with every iteration of Windows except Win 98 and its should-have-been-aborted sibling Windows 8. Haven't bought a computer off the shelf since 1991, so I'm pretty OK with hardware. Built lots and lots of my own computers and computers for other people.

I tend to know a bit more than I let on but I have also learned that if I chest-pound, people often overestimate me such that I don't receive the benefit of that essential tidbit of information that I was assumed to know - but actually didn't.

Plus, my Mama didn't raise a fool. Act like you know something in this group and you'll end up getting nicely smacked down by somebody who really does know something.

Hiyya Dennis well mate you will not get smacked down in here unless you do something really pretty ordinary or nasty.

Sounds like you have a lot to offer and myself I have mucked about with electronics since I was about 8 and computing only for the last five years and then only seriously in the last two. I reckon if you can stand being wrong a few times here and there and can take advice without offence then you will / can fit in anywhere.

But like I said my last forum I got sick of the belligerent attitude of a lot of them and well ended up here quite by accident and have met a lot of really nice people and it has also given me a much different attitude towards Americans who seem to be portrayed a lot as loud mouthed and cocky - but as I have found nothing could be further from the truth. I know this now because a good friend at work has done a lot of traveling over there and she always says the common impression is just not true.

Plus I have very particular friend who I have come across in SF that I may never have known ever.

I know some Aussies who are really quite obnoxious and then some that are real nice people. Being English by birth I do get a bit fed up with the bad mouthing of the English but I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion eh? and there again I know some pretty obnoxious English folks too so good and bad in all eh?
