Pioneer DVR-216D - Win7 can't install drivers

Hello everyone,

I have an issue with my Pioneer DVR-216D DVD-RW drive. Win7 (x64 Ultimate) cannot install the drivers for it - it is marked with exclamation mark in the Device Manager. Surprisingly MS Win7 compatibility site says this product is fully compatible with Win7 both x86 and x64.

The drive is connected via SATA cable to Gigabyte GA-X38-DS5 motherboard using AHCI. All newest drivers have been installed. I tried to change the connection type (in BIOS) to IDE but then Windows does not see the drive at all. Nevertheless, in both cases it is detected by BIOS...

Pioneer doesn't provide any particular drivers for this model.

Can anyone advise me what to do? I've already tried the upper filtres reg trick and the one with integrity checks (via cmd line) - both failed to change anything.

Do you have latest 1.09 firmware loaded?

Have you tried a different sata slot/lead?
Is sata lead def. ok?

Latest Motherboard bios loaded - esp for 64bit?

Is there a setting in motherboard bios menu to force/make compatable Sata (from 3Gb/s) to 1.5 on the socket your Drive is attached to?
Might even be pins on the motherboard.

Maybe you didn't quite do enough work editing filters in the registry!
Read this eloquent post that solved someone elses problem with a similar Pioneer sata drive

Look @/read post #4 (especially the 'note' part)

Yes, the 1.09 firmware is installed.
I tried all G-SATA slots with no effect :( My Intel-branded SATA does not serve recorders so I skipped it.
I also tried all settings in BIOS (AHCI and IDE, skipped RAID obviously). This controller has no normal / legacy switch so I wasn't able to test it.
The filters were removed in every subkey of drive registry class entry, and as this trick is quite well-known over the web I believe I did my homework :)

The last thing I may do is do a clean system install but that's the one I'd like to avoid...

I can only go from info you provide - read like you only had a go at DVD filters!

Is this a brand new install of Win7 64bit and you are retro installinging the drive?

R.U Aware that - Hard drives Only plugged into the (4?) Intel sata sockets or dvd/other items won't work (properly) on 'G' sata!

This works most times but is drastic!

In "device manager" > 'system devices'
delete/uninstall "pci-bus"
REboot

This forces Windows to redetect majority of it's drivers

Let Win 7 reinstall/download most of it's drivers from the internet - make sure it is connected

Try resetting your Cmos on the motherboard pins - see if system will see the DVD after! Make sure you enter correct date back into the bios before starting Win7 back up! Leave other bios settings untouched as far as possible.
