Solved Playing Warcraft 3 in LAN using both wired and wireless connection

Hello,

Is it possible to use both wired and wireless connection to play the game in LAN?

Here's how the connection will be:

Laptop 2 ---> Laptop 1 <---- Computer A

Laptop 1 start the Hosted Network

Laptop 2 connect to Laptop 1 through the hosted network

Computer A connect to Laptop 1 through ethernet cable

Laptop 1 host the game

Actually, I've tried it, we can enter the game's lobby.
But when the game start, the others (Laptop 2 and Computer A) got disconnected.

Both laptops run Windows 7, the computer runs Windows XP
Unfortunately, I can't remember the ping results

So, actually, is it possible to have network connection like that?
Without Computer A and Laptop 2 directly connected.

Its not a good idea to do it this way:

1) Wireless is never good for gaming. You will probably get lag spikes etc.
2) If your wireless NIC and wired NIC are on the same IP range then it will probably cause issues as well.
3) Check your Anti-virus and Firewall as it may block your game


The best thing to do would be to connect all the PCs via a wire on a switch. If you need to use wireless on the laptop then install a Wireless Access Point.

You cannot use the same IP address on different computers, they will disconnect and complain of duplicate addresses.

The range refers to the first three octets, that is 192.168.1. The last octet must be different for each PC. So, Laptop 1 might be 192.168.1.1, Computer A will be 192.168.1.2 and laptop 2 will be 192.168.1.3. They don't need to be consecutive, but they must be different.

For this to work too, you will need to ensure they all use a subnet mask that is the same, usually, in this case 255.255.255.0.

The mothod you have described should work. Technically, whether it is wireless or wired is largely irrelevant from a connection point of view. But I agree with Dave Atkin, this is not a good scenario for wireless. If you're serious about your LAN game parties, wire the computers together.

Well, it's just for casual gaming. As long as we can stay connected, speed is not a problem.
