please help dvd burner issue

hi
ive just bought a new pc with a hp gh40l dvd writer the problem is
my stand alone dvd player will now not play the media,but its the same media
i used with my old pc (verbatim) and worked totally fine and my drive on my pc will play the media please help

I hope you know keyboards have a period key. But besides that, have you installed the right drivers for your correct architecture and dvd drive?

i have a HP assistant which i have ran and there seems to be no issues.
like i say the burnt media plays on my pc and is visible when i open the disc

Try using windows media player/center instead of stand alone player. Unless those are totally two different things. Becuase i dont know what stand alone player is

Are you saying you tried to burn a video but it does not work on a DVD player? If so I can tell you how to fix it.

First, make sure you are using a program specifically for making DVDs and not using WMP or the old drag and drop method. This makes a data DVD that only a computer, and maybe an Xbox 360 can read. I recommend the Windows DVD Maker that comes with 7. On the first or second screen, you need to select your DVD burner if you have more than one disc drive. You can add as many videos as you want as long as it does not exceed the time limit printed on the DVD. If you exceed the time limit, will be left with a shiny coaster instead of a DVD. You then need to click options in the bottom right hand corner. Use the NTSC format. Set the aspect ratio. If you get the ratio wrong everything will be compressed or stretched. Make sure you set the burner speed to slowest. This will insure that nothing goes wrong during the burning process.

One the next two or three screens you can create a custom DVD menu. This will make it look like you have a professionally made DVD. You have a wide range of cool options to choose from. Once the burning process actually begins, it can take some time to complete. One way to speed things up is to open task manager, find the process for DVD Maker, and set the priority to above normal or high. Do not select real time, as that priority is for drivers only, and would cause the computer to crash.

Make sure to follow all of the instructions above. If you don't understand something, please feel free to ask. The only stupid questions are those that are never asked.

i'm sorry but you seem to have missunderstood me. i have burnt many a film/movie using image files and also vob files on my old pc which then play automatically on my dvd player which is connected to my television. i have now got a new pc with windows 7 and every image file ive burnt(with imgburn and also wmp) does not play like before but will play on my pc.i have not changed the brand of media (verbatim) i have never had to go through the whole scenario of authoring a menu and setting aspect ratio before,

An image file? Where are getting your movies from? I know what I'm talking about here. WMP 11 always burns videos to DVDs as data files, not as a DVD. Use DVD maker. If you don't want to use my advice, so be it. I cannot help those that do not want to be helped. Also, vob files can contain all kinds of anti-piracy protection. I have a couple that the DVD they came from allow the files to be copied to a hard drive or mp3 player, but do not allow the video to be burned. I'm sure there is a way around it, but I don't care enough to try.

Did you check the book type of your burnt DVDs? Maybe you asked ImgBurn to change booktype with your old PC and forgot to do that with your new PC.

The book type is a field of four bits at the start of every disk (in the physical format information section of the control data block) that indicates what the physical format of the disc is. Many devices will use this "Book Type Field" to determine how the disc should be treated.
