Please excuse my ignorance however I desperately need some help to figure out why my MS Office Excel 2010 (on Windows 7 Business 32 bit) keeps randomly "Not Responding" whenever I do some of the following : Open a document / insert a row / copy a sheet / etc... It hangs for anything from around 3 mins to 15 mins before fixing itself. Unless I get irritated and just manually close the whole excel using the task manger.

It does not matter whether I am using a file from the server (LAN) or directly from my hard drive (C Drive)..

Before when I had Windows Vista and Office 2003 (same computer) I had a problem whenever I wanted to change the printer option. Excel would hang for around 2 to 3 minutes while it was changing the printer. Didn't matter whether it was from or to a locally connected or a network printer. Now there appears to be no issue with the printer selection but I do have a big problem with the above items. What drives me mad is that it does not happen all the time.

Sometimes it fixes itself when I restart the program or my whole computer. Sometimes it fixes itself when I clean the disk on my C Drive. But even still - sometimes after doing all that nothing changes and it still hangs. Then other days nothing will be a problem at all. I really don't get it! I have 4Gig of RAM - if that makes any difference.

Would really appreciate any and all help / suggestions!! PLEASE PLEASE!!!
Thanks so very much in advance!!

Perhaps there is something here which will help:
The program stops responding when you try to open or to save a file in an Office 2002 program, in an Office 2003 program, in an Office 2007 program, or in an Office 2010 program

This problem may occur if any one of the following conditions is true:
  • When the computer is connected to one or more mapped network shares that are nonexistent or that are currently offline.
  • When one or more mapped drives are persistent, and the drive is in a domain that is not trusted.
  • When the mapped drive is located on a slow or a down-level computer. A down-level computer is when the operating system of the computer has an earlier version of Microsoft Windows than the computer that you are using).
  • When a mapped drive is connected across a Wide Area Network (WAN).
  • When a drive is an inaccessible removable drive.
