Please Help! I'm an idiot!

Please help, I've really screwed up!

Ok so I have installed Windows 7, Build 7077 and was thoroughly enjoying it. I have three seperate hard drives installed on my pc right now, one has a copy of Windows Xp, another is a storage drive, and this third is for my tinkering.

On the storage drive I keep all of my music and videos, and have seperate folders for each. I also stream these folders to my xbox 360, so yesterday I used media player in Windows 7 to do so. Apparently I set up these two folders so that they had permission to be shared over the network to my xbox and all was grand. Worked just fine.

Well I boot into my XP drive today to do some goofing around, and go to log into my Music folder, and it says it's not accessible. I figured I set something up wrong on the Win7 drive so I reboot and boot into it.

I started unsharing the folder, undoing the steps I'd done before to set it back to normal and notice that the folders still show little locked icons beside them on the storage drive.

I then go into the properties of both folders, and under securities tried to remove any password restrictions, etc. Well my dumb@$$ removed all accounts to have access to these folders, not paying attention and essentially removing access from anyone to use these folders.

Obviously my question is how do I fix it? Now when I go into the Security tab under Properties it tells me "You do not have permission to view or edit this object's permission settings." and I'm now at a total loss. It has all of my kids videos, years of music collecting, and I'm probably going to end up getting killed by my wife later tonight because of it so if anyone has actually read through this whole thing and can help, please do!

set up the security settings for this folder/disk, first of all become owner of this folder or use this context menu in W7 only
context menu - take ownership.reg

Also, something to remember in the future; once you have everything set the way you want it go into restore, and set a new restore point then give it a name. That way if something goes wrong you then have a restore point to fall back on. Have attempted to get my customers to do this, but you probably know how that goes. . .

Thanks guys didn't think about the take ownership... it's embarrassing too because I'm normally getting paid to fix people's screw up's but had no idea what to do on this one. Drinks on me

Glad that ur problem got solved and now u don't have to worry abt ur DATA (Music, Videos, etc...)
