System specs:

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit, and everything installs in to Program Files (x86)

Original OS was Windows XP, but I wiped the partition to install Windows 7.

I bought an OEM and installed it myself.

Hardware purchased in 2008, except for GPU and RAM.

My current OS install is only about 1 month old. When I used to have XP i would do fresh reinstalls every few months due to viruses.

Hardware specs:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Windsor 3.2GHz Socket AM2 125W Dual-Core

mobo: ASUS M2NPV-VM AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6150 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

memory: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (i also bought some newer, 2 x 2gig sticks)

GPU: SAPPHIRE 100315L Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256bit GDDR5 PCIE 2.1x16

Sound Card: Integrated, w/ downloaded Soundmax drivers.

Monitor / reso: FLATRON W1952tq 1440x900

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Cooling: Rosewill RCX-Z3 92mm Ball CPU Cooler + like 2 other case fan

Run an sfc/scannow command in an elevated command prompt. If errors are found, run it twice more with each scan followed by a reboot.

Enable Driver Verifier. Enabling this should hopefully crash your system and then point to the faulty driver that is causing problems. However before you do, it is advised that you create a system restore point and backup first.

ASACPI.sys may be the cause of the problem. The pre-2009 version of the driver is notorious for causing BSOD's. From the below link, click on Utilities and download and install the 'ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Win7 32&64-bit'.
