Hello,

I'm new to this forum but I really need help!

About a week ago I got myself a new mobo, ram and cpu, along with a new Windows 7 Pro 64bits. After installing everything I got my PC working without issues.

But that same day my PC just froze up. No input possible, keyboard and mouse not responding, and the speakers were stuck on the last sound from a video. (also the Harddrive LED stopped blinking)

I thought this was just a one time thing but now I see these freezes happen all the time. One time while watching a video, one time while playing minecraft, one time during browsing, etc etc.

I understand there are alot of people with this issue on Windows 7 but there doesn't seem to be an absolute solution for everyone, so please please please can someone who understands this problem help me?

Thank you

EDIT: System Specs
-Windows 7 Pro 64bits SP1 from MSDNAA (installed on two different HDD same problem both times)
-CPU: Intel i5 2500K 3.3GHz new
-Motherboard: Asus P8H67-M new
-Ram: Corsair 4Gb DDR3 1333MHz new
-Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 460 768MB

Hi,

My Power supply is a LC Power lc6600gp2 v2.3 600W.

Unfortunately I have no idea where I could get it tested...

Could it be that I need a new PSU? I've had this one for some time without issues for a q9550 2.83GHz on Vista 32bits.

I apologize. That's the second time within the last hour that I've made that mistake. Let's hope it's just to the 100+ temps here.

Just as a wild guess until the bsod analyzers get a chance to look at the .zip file, then:
Take cover off of computer.
Direct a desktop/table/floor fan directly at your computer.

You can use core temp (link in my sig) to keep an eye an your temps.

I actually use RealTemp to monitor the CPU and GPU temps, never got anything above normal. Does Core temp record the temperatures to a log? Maybe I could see an overheating issue this way?

Early days yet, but in the absence of any other pointers it's quite possible, which is why it's important to have it checked.

Do you have any whizz-kid friends who possess a multimeter to check out some voltages and power readings for you?

afraid not, don't know anyone who would have anything like that...

but at least if the problem comes from the PSU it's fairly simple to replace.

In that case, don't worry about the power supply until all other avenues have been exhausted.

I need a minidump file for this, it sounds like a driver conflict.
two steps so we can generate a minidump

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
Under the Write Debugging Information header
Select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
OK your way out.
Reboot if changes have been made.

then enable driver verifier
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/101379-driver-verifier-enable-disable.html
(Please read all instructions for driver verifier before using as it's possible it will make the machine behave badly and you need to know how to undo it.)

Vlad,
Ask and you shall receive. You've got some excellent help.

I'd like to emphasize the reading of the instructions on the use of driver verifier.

Verifier can really put you in what looks like a hopeless state, if you don't know the simple thing of booting into safe mode and running verifier /reset

lol it would only take one minidump for me to get most if not all the relevant info I need to go on.
It just the easiest way to get a list of the drivers installed on a system.
I honestly expected him to crash right away with DV enabled...

Anyhow some common apps that cause trouble for people
daemon tools
Asus probe/utilities suite.

Vlad,
run cmd.exe and then run driverquery

You might want to make that driverquery > driverlist.txt

Now you can WIN | click on your account name (right under your icon) |
double-click on driverlist.txt

That driver list is probably of no interest to you but rather to someone looking to spot an out-of-date driver, for example.
