I tried it on 3 separate machines, it is 1 USB drive; I want to fix that.

I can copy to and from files on it without error, default Windows system tools does not report an error (no bad sector, either), however it does not boot anymore.

It booted before.
- PendriveLinux.com FAT32 sytems
- Windows 7 ISO as NTFS

any help?

Backup all the files on the pen drive, then format it with HP USB Disk storage Format Tool v2.2.3 HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool Download - Softpedia

That should cleanup your pendrive. Try creating your bootable pen drive after that.

Note: Right click on HPUSBDisk.exe and run as administrator.

I did just that. HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool says: Device media is write-protected.

The stick works as before with Windows, however.

I have seen this write-protected error thrown by the HP Tool. This happens when the device gets locked by some other process/program. Under these circumstances I plug-out the drive, reboot my computer, plug-in the drive and from the desktop short-cut HP Tool icon straightaway run it as administrator. I do not open anything else when the desktop appears. Straight to the HP tool from the desktop - not even my
"Computer" to check whether the drive appears in it :) . . Try it and see whether that helps.

If it does not help, try it on some other computer. For I would think some program on your computer is engaging the drive when Windows starts or as soon as the drive is plugged in.. I don't know what it is. May be some Linux which you have been experimenting. Another computer may not have it.
