PNY 8800GT - Connecting to HDTV (DVI --> HDMI)

Hello Everyone,

I have a desktop computer with a PNY 8800GT that I am trying to connect to my HDTV:

I have a DVI ---> HDMI cable and have it connected to the TV correctly. Initially turning on the computer I can see the boot process on my TV, but as soon as it gets to the point where it starts loading up Windows it hangs and displays a black screen.

If I go and disconnect the DVI cable from the PC, it will boot up. I'll give it a few minutes, and plug the cable back into my PC, and my TV will display the login screen on Windows 7, but as soon as I enter my password and hit enter it goes back into a black screen.

Just to be clear, the TV is getting SOME type of signal, if my TV wasn't receiving any signal it will tell me with a warning box. Instead it is just black screen with no picture or anything.

So I was hoping someone out there possibly faced something similar and was able to resolve it correctly. If anyone needs any additional information, please let me know!

This could be due to a faulty device driver i recommend finding a classic VGA monitor cable and attempting to run it off of that. then going to NVIDIA's website and updating the driver (or reinstalling the one you already have on disc). Always run a clean installation!

If it still does not display anything an old trick I've used in the past which seems ridiculous but sometimes works is opening up the computer and swapping the ram cards to each others ports. It's sometimes just enough to confuse the computer and force it to boot properly.

Hello Everyone,

So newest update: Unplugging the DVI cable, the computer will begin to load, and as soon as that occurs I'll plug the cable back in and be greeted with my Windows 7 login screen as I said previously.

However, this time it let me into my desktop after entering my password and I've been able to do it repeatedly once I get to the login screen. So I adjusted the resolution, it looks like Windows detected it was connected to my HDTV and auto adjusted, as well as updated the Nvidia display driver to the latest version. But upon restarting the machine, as soon as it gets to the point where its about to load Win7, it hangs....and if I just disconnect the DVI cable again, the computer will immediately begin booting / loading Windows 7 normally.

To be clear, I see the initial boot post on the TV (checking of memory, hard-drives, CD drives, etc. but as soon as it tried to load Win7 it hangs. I also tossed in my Win 7 DVD, to see if I could boot from that and possibly do a "fresh" install, but the same hanging behavior presented itself.)

Any other thoughts or things to check on?

A4orce84: I have the EXACT same issue you are describing. I too need to turn off my receiver (which operates the hdmi to my HDTV) in order for windows 7 to boot otherwise it hangs right before the windows logo boot up area. What I do right now which is very annoying is hang by my tv with sources off, wait for the pc to load and after about 45 seconds I flip the receiver back on and everything is fine until next restart.
I too have an nvidia 8800gt with all drivers updated.
I would absolutely LOVE an answer to this as well!!
