Poor SSD performance

Hi,

I'm using Team Xtreem S3 120 GB SSD with Win7. The intallation was performed on AHCI mode and drivers and BIOS settings seem to be ok. However I get a poor perfomance. With SATA2 connection, I believe I should get seq speeds around 200-250 MB/s. Here is what I get:

I think I have found the reason. My SSD seems to run as SATA 1 altough my other HDDs are on SATA 2 mode. Any idea how to fix It?

If you mean AHCI drivers, no I didnt. I went with default MSAhci drivers and later updated with nvidia drivers.

That's good. I experimented once with the Intel driver during an SSD installation, and my AS SSD benchmark score was quite lower than with the MSAchi driver. Your score looks extremely low.

Did you check your cable connections?

What should I look at the cables? I mean they are whether connected or not right? There is no half connection? I mean it either works or doesnt work at all? Is there an "in between" ?

AS SSD benchmark scores are right at SATA 1 limits. I need to find a way to change the drive connection mode to SATA 2. But how?

so you later upgrade to nvidia? was it okay with MS driver?
i know there is some problems with nvidia chip set drivers.

Things to try.
Remove nvidia one and intall default MS driver for sata controler.
Try to connect SSD to different SATA port on motherboard. (sata1 and then sata4 etc. try them all if you can)
Disconect all other SATA or IDE drives.

I already tried default MS AHCI driver. No dice... I will try to install the driver provided by Anthony. Unfotunately I've read forum posts stating that doesnt fix this issue. But will try anyway.

I also will try to switch SATA cables when I get home. Too bad nvidia chipsets cannot handle an SSD as they should. Shame on you, nvidia...

SSDs need to be connected to the SATA 6Gb/sec ports on the mobo. AHCI is the correct SATA function......

If your board is only equipped with SATA 3Gb/sec ports the SSD will run at half advertised speed.
2 options available: upgrade the board or live with the speed.....

My SSD works at half speed compared to SATA 3Gb/sec limits. Not the advertised SATA3 speeds. I can see it's working on SATA 1.5Gb/sec mode.

Motherboard upgrade time. SSDs are 6gb/s drives. They're backwards compatible but there's no guarantee what speed you'll see. See if there's a SATA driver update available otherwise if you have a need for speed then buy some new gear..

I'll keep that in mind in the event there is a personal attack. I follow your own mantra, and call it as I see them, and to steal the old I.T. addage...throwing money at the problem isn't always the solution.

Now, to keep it on topic, the drive should run at half it's rated speed, yes, but that still should be SATA II. Telling someone to buy a new board, which potentially could lead to plenty of other new hardware, might not be feasible.

Let's try to solve the issue first.

I don't need SATA3 speeds but I want at least to be able to run the SSD at SATA2 speed as it should be. Currently it's somehow stuck @SATA1

And I don't want to get a new mobo since it would mean to get a new CPU and RAM too...
