Solved Possible performance drop due to cleaning fan.

Hi guys,

Past week I did a manual cleaning of my whole cabinet, and also the processor's stock fan that was making a constant sound that fans generally make.

I pulled out the lever for detaching the fan, and did a thorough cleaning of the fan.
After that I blew away the excess dust inside the motherboard, which I regret.

And after fixing it back, without new thermal paste was happy that the sound was gone.

But, now the sound has came back again, which is quite annoying, but can be ignored.
Strangely though, I am experiencing a general performance drop, and slow response of my mouse (Razer Death Adder).

And also the loading time of webpages has increased.

I wanna know if this is happening because of the thermal paste not applied or is it something with my OS ?
Should I apply thermal paste again ? Its been about 2 years since I bought the machine.

You certainly should have cleaned off the old paste and reapplied new paste.

Are you having any temperature issues?

Are you POSITIVE that the fan is responsible for the noise you hear?

I wouldn't expect what you did to affect the mouse or performance unless your PC is now throttling due to heat issues or unless you accidentally did something else.

Agreed; a quick look at the CPU temperature with, say, CoreTemp should verify this.
When removing and replacing the heatsink, you must clean the heatsink and CPU surfaces extremely well and apply fresh, new thermal paste.

anytime you remove your heatsink you should clean the cpu and heatsink and put new thermal paste.

I certainly cleaned them carefully, but as I fear that thermal paste did it.
And ya, I will post the CoreTemp snapshot in a minute.(should have checked it )

And surely it was the fan.

how much paste did you use?
you should put just a very small amount in the center of the cpu.
if you did that then recheck to see if your heatsink is set and fastened on right.
also check the fan and make sure it's working.

Got it! After thermal paste, temps go low to 38 degrees . YAY!
