Possible Upgrade issue?

I Have a question slightly off my topic. What does it mean when your monitor occassionally goes black for a few seconds and then on again? This happened before. My video card died, but also I could clearly hear the fan on it and how loud it was going. Since my card is brand new, it better not be the card. I wonder if the monitor is going? Ugh seriously ... if 1 more piece of pc equipment goes... I might choke myself lol

It could be video drivers that aren't compatible with 7. I'm thinking you ought to shut that thing down until you start your install before you fry something. I believe the first part of the tutorial will guide you through the Windows 7 compatibility checker. Then you will be sure to have all the right drivers.

When I did my installation, I ended up having to set the installer for my Lexmark printer to Vista SP2 compatibility mode before running the installation. The tutorial will hold your hand all the way through for things like that. And what ever gaps are in it, that's what these forums are for.

Learn to install, then learn to do backups and you will be on your way to knowing how to maintain a slick dependable computer. And you will never ever want anyone else to touch your machine.

Ok, ... I'm just dropping this at my pc guy tmr. I did want to attempt it, but I don't have the time this weekend to mess around with this and it doesn't sound like I can wait long to get this done according to what Rusty said.

I have a question about Outlook. Where would I put the archive file that I want to save once I get the program back on? That archive saves my calendar too? I've already printed it out, but it would be nice if I could drop this file back somewhere and my calendar would be intact.

Print my setting up 7 and installing drivers in 7 guides too - I'm sure you'll need it.

I'm going to print these out. I'm not trying it this time, but I will the next time I need to re-install.

I don't think they are set to hidden, but I'll check. I just got it back now and am working on putting everything back on. I can't find the Outlook folder so that I can try to get my old files in it. Any ideas? I looked thoroughly. I don't understand.

They were set to hidden. I got rid of that, but there is still no AppData folder under users.

Alrighty, I found it and replaced the files. I see my contacts and thank God my calendar too, but when I write an email (still having previous email problems - password won't stick and some component missing) and click on "to" it says there is no address book. Eh, I guess the most important thing is seeing my calendar. It won't kill me to manually set up the address book again ..... tho the names are there already!

btw ... I downloaded a "hotfix" for the email troubles. It didn't fix anything at all.

But .....new problem I finally got to the address problem in Outlook. I thought, ok, the addresses show up but they aren't there when I click "To" ... so I thought easy to solve. Delete them and input them again. So I did 1 email addy and then tried a new email and it still claims ... wait, let me get the error .... "The address list could not be displayed. The contacts folder associated could not be opened. It may have been moved or deleted or you don't have permissions"

Please, someone tell me where that contacts folder should be so I can straighten this out?
