Possibly a stupid question

Installed W7 HP (64 bit), everything else works fine, applications, games etc, all fine. This is probaly just my not having downloaded / installed the right plugin or codex, but the site I sometimes use to watch MSNBC (Msnbc News)
moz-screenshot.png
won't work now without asking for a plugin to be installed, but the only ones available seems to be for WMP11 / a Quicktime plugin which is I think no longer supported.
Is there anything I should have installed or is it just a matter of waiting for an update either to the site or W7 HP (64 Bit).
Tried searching for this but couldn't find anything, sorry if this issue has been posted before. Thanks in advance for any help.

Not a bad question at all as I am also experiencing this problem.

I see that MSNBC uses embedded Windows Media Player (WMP), which is also what XM Radio Online uses to stream their satellite radio audio over the Web. Ever since installing Win7 Pro x64 I have not been able to get the proper WMP plug-in to be recognized by Firefox, despite the plug-in reporting a successful install.

It seems to me that this issue may be due to a WMP version mismatch; that is that the plug-in for Firefox was based on WMP version 11 and the WMP in Win7 is version 12?

I am eager to see if someone here has a solution, too, since I miss my XM Radio. :)

Sorry about that, I didn't mean to post the url as a link. Anyway, it seems to work as you described through IE8 so it must be a Firefox issue. I will try contacting Mozilla see if they can shed any light on this.

Haven't used FF in a while, but you can get the quicktime and wmp plugins here. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:7

Gary, good news for my WMP plug-in problem and something the OP here might consider. On another forum I had pointed out this problem, to which someone had replied that he had the WMP plug-in installed and working.

Thus, I went back to look at what might have gone wrong with my install of the plug-in and solved the problem. It wasn't a mismatch in WMP versions after all.

Firefox was the first piece of software I installed to my freshly loaded Win7 x64 environment. I hadn't worked with x64 up until this install so I was not aware of MS's separation of "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)" and the automatic defaulting of one folder or the other depending on the app being x64 or x86.

Thus, when I installed FF to my new Win7 environment I overrode the "Program Files (x86)" folder recommendation with the "Program Files" folder and installed there.

Apparently the Windows Media Player Firefox plug-in is hard-coded to accept the default install path that Windows passes it so it installed the plug-in all by its lonesome into "Program Files (x86)\Mozilla\Firefox\" (the last two folders being whatever the user chose as the install location).

When I found that lone plug-in directory there I simply moved all the WMP plug-in files over to the real FF location's plug-in folder and the WMP plug-in now works.
