I have been trying to get my system running stable with DDR3 2400.

CPU-Z Validator 3.1

Since I made that run I have dropped down to 4GHz and DDR3 2400. However I am still unable to make it stable. This is all I want. My sticks are only rated at DDR3 1866 so you can tell I am hard core about overclocking.

I would be hitting 4.7 I really don't get why my v-core won't go above 1.449 ?

these chips take more then 1.5 just to get over the 4.5 mark which im just barley cutting it and the Vdrop makes it look under 1.42

ello chaps.
i got adventurous today so i thought id see what i could come up with i tried various combinations of multiplier and fsb and only had a few bsod's i ended up with this oc, 4.214ghz mutiplier x20, fsb 210 @1.35v(set @1.365v).. memory @1684mhz 9,9,9,24,41,2T 1.66v
if i went over 213 on the fsb it wanted more vcore than i wanted to give(i want 2keep my idle temp below 37c)
i did get 4.3ghz with mem @1704 with 213 fsb, x20 multi and 1.375v vcore but my usable ram went down to 8GB which it does if i need more vcore. i only set a goal of 4.2/4.3 anyway and am happy with the 4.2.
im gonna upgrade from my H50 to a H80 soon so may have another attempt then. my temps are still good, idle 37/38c and maxed@ 51c during intel burn test. so all good for now

@Solar, I tried 4 ASRock Fata1ty 990FX Pro boards, all junk and ASrock says I don't know how to clock and they test every board that is returned.

cheers folks but it turns out its not quite stable. it survived intel burn test but it did'nt survive battlefield 3 lol. its known for not liking oc's much. u think it just needs more vcore?

Try a vcore bump at the minimun step your board has and try it for a few hours/days. then bump again, but stay below 1.4V. It will likely get hotter, more volts=watts=heat.

okey dokey chap cheers! yeah im deffo trying to keep it under the 1.4.
any suggestions on which software to use to control cpu fan speed? i dont like the asus software even if i just install fan xpert alone it messes with voltage readings. so refuse to use it. i use aida x64 for everythin but need somethin to control fan speed. not speed fan either.

No I don't, I don't use one myself. I set it up in my BIOS, it has min, max, and speed settings.

yeah ive messed about with different profiles in the bios n just cant seem to get it just right lol. i prefer using software for the cpu fans as its more convenient. all my other fans r locked at their lowest speeds. i'll com up with somethin lol

Ive just took 8GB ram out of my pc cos its done nothing but cause me grief lol. I bought a second 8GB kit of the ram ive been using for ages but because the spd info on my original ram is wrong it wont run right. When i first installed it i would only get 12GB usable unless i upped the vcore. I did get it so i had all 16GB but sometimes i was having to go into the bios and reset the already set settings to get all the ram usable. Eventhough its the same ram technically its different enit. So i took it out as it was more than likely down to this that my oc was failing. I know having more ram makes it more difficult to oc and i only bought it to fill the empty slots lol as i have no need for 16GB really. it can go in the build i do for my daughter. id spent days tryin to get it right but it never was really so i'll restart my oc from scratch and see what difference it makes

EDIT: sorry i should have just edited my last post but didnt think... my heads up my arse at the min lol

Yup. some RAM won't play well together even if it the exact same model. Ram should always be installed in matched kits for the best compatibility.

hopefully when i oc my cpu again it wont be such a pain in the arse lol. im having a few days off it though. all ive done for the last couple of weeks is read about oc'ing and memory problems for about 10 hours a day. headshot now lol. it will all sink in while i rest with a few smokes
i always thought it was odd that my ram showed in cpuz as something totally different but was told its ok lol. which it was as i never had a problem with it untill i tried adding more. not to worry

i got my motherboard back today as ebuyer say there is nothin wrong with it. it can go on ebay with my phenomII 965be. then i can buy somethin alse nice lol

CPUz does have problems reading some hardware. If it reads it right in the BIOS, it's finer than frogs' hair.

it gave the right model number just the wrong spd info. 2 profiles on it. 1 is 1066 and the other is 1600 instead of 1333 and 1600. after checking the sticks again they have the same model numbers but different version numbers. if i do ever need 16gb i'll just buy another complete kit enit

Looks like your RAM is different build versions, meaning different chips used. This may or may not be coaxed into working together.
You're right, the best way is to buy a matched kit.

When you start loading up on RAM you usually will need to bump the IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) voltage and sometimes the DRAM voltage.
With more RAM cards, more memory chips, you need more voltage to get enough power to each memory chip on each RAM card.

You can bump voltage on AMD CPUs and boards a fair bit without causing too much heat.
If you want to post those voltage settings, I can give you some suggestions.
Or, if your happy with 8GB, then it's all good.

The SPD info on CPUZ is just the JEDEC standard testing information for the RAM cards, this is just for reference, it doesn't have anything to do with actual settings.
The Memory tab shows the actual timings.
All RAM voltages listed on CPUZ are recommended and not actual, these have to be taken from the BIOS. (CPU voltage is actual)
