its a continual ''work in progress''....
I just tried to overclock my Q6600. My Mainboard has sooo many options..And I keep making it unstable. I attached a screenshot of what I managed.
Anyone now what I could aim at? I tried to put as much detail in my system specs as possible.

Yeah buddy. HT disabled as 8 threads is a nightmare to get stable for so little gain. Plus it ups the load temps from 66 to 85!

I was able to clock my Q6600 to 2.8GHz with the default CPU HSF. If you get yourself a really nice cooler like the Thermalright Ultra-120 you could easily hit 3.0GHz with a G0 Q6600. It was pie for me.

Bah... Found out that the Striker Extreme has issues overclocking quad cores so I'm going to have to update to something else, at least to get the speeds that I'd prefer. I've sat for over 5 hours now attempting to get my PC to boot with the settings anywhere over 3.1GHz and it's just not working on my motherboard. The PC fails to boot about 1/4 of the way through the post process and just hangs up. I'm looking to get a 3.4 (possibly a 3.6) OC out of this processor, and I'm probably going to lap my cooler to get even better temps.

Anyone have any objections to an eVGA nForce 780i SLI FTW motherboard for my needs? Needs to support DDR2, ATX, PCI-E 2.0, and socket 755 obviously...http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX21410(ME).aspx

Muff1n:

Wrong. There are no Intel boards MADE for OCing. As you said, it sucks for it. It's not MADE for it. There's just a setting for overclocking. Thus, Intel boards are not overclockers.

My statement still stands.

I understand all too well what you meant... (Thanks for the compliment on my OC & my mobo) :D hehe!
Although it's not an ASUS Extreme mobo with all the other Extra OC options (most of which many have no idea what they do) it does have OC options in the bios & does support OCing.

So, with that said here's a Stable 3.50GHz OC on my Intel brand Badaxe2 board that is made for OCing!!! :p

Btw, if anyone here has questions about OCing any type of system, come on over to the Alliance of Overclocking Arts & we will help you out to get what you want! (if its possible)
This includes the new Core i7 systems.

I think that it's probably not possible and you would have problems with heat if you did.

Q9450 @3608mhz (8x451) @ 1.32V (LLC enabled) on air, so nothing special. If i would play around and would be willing to lower my memory i could get more probably, since my memory seems to hit some wall at around ~1080mhz, uping voltage or increasing timings doesnt help at all. But dont think its worth for ~100-200mhz. I managed to boot and do tests with over 4ghz, but with very high voltages and reduced memory speed.

I'm a day trader. You'd be amazed how much CPU power is required to backtest. This is just one of several machines in my home office. I don't play games with PC's, I have a PS3 for that.
btw,

I found massive decrease in heat (and could then reduce voltage) when I disabled HT and turbo mode. I was reluctant to do this, but once I did the gains were very impressive.

I have it @ 3.8 right now, but had 4.0 running but the temps were too high for my taste. 3.8 passes prime95 overnight.
