I overclocked my i7 920 to 3.5 ( 3.7 with speedstep ) and its stable in prime95 for 3 hours. Maximum temps are 80C. Done that with the default i7 cooler

as a general rule Overclocking is done in the BIOS, not using Windows S/W

what motherboard do you have...???

I tried to overclock my new XFX ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB card.
failed badly lol,standard clocks are 600mh/z and 400MHZ for memory.
I must try again when i have time,i just didnt have the time lol

Hi Minotar.......

your card lacks any voltage adjustment, & as its a mid to low range card the GPU & RAM ICs are probably at their binned limits....

if you want more performance IMO a new card is the way to go....

This is first time overclocking. It has been running for about 3 weeks now. Installed a cooler master v8 and cranked it up. Ran prime95 and stable. 3.6, 3.8 turbo, didn't want to over do it.

I understand the allure of OC. As one of the ppl who have to try to diagnose BSOD's I thought I might just warn you. You will gain performance, instability and grief. the shortened life span of the components, and frustration is yours to chose. I answered the same song. If you are 64bit be very careful. there is a spate of BSOD's to which 64bit is overwhelmingly its victim. do it conservatively you win. try to eek out that tiny bit more, you lose.

i totally agree. You need to install a clean O/S and over clock and test and test and test.

Hard core tests for video, power supply and CPU heat. Prime 95 is NOT enough.

Once you are SURE you have a stable box oc'd to its max and stable limits you need to reformat and start over with your O/S. You will have blue screen your PC MANY times in this process.

Every machine will be different and you particular parts will dictate your bottle neck.

If you do not feel comfortable letting your machine run at 100 percent, CPU, video and Hard drive at the same time for hours.... Then you have not tested enough to KNOW your OC is stable.
