Most people recommend disabling HT and turbo when O/Cing i7's for that very reason.

Bloody Big Grin
My work pc with a motherboard and fsb that apparently got a nice increase for being cheap :
Athlon64 X2 4450B overclocked from 2300 to 2872 MHz, either mobo or ntune didn't allow me to set a higher fsb :(
CPU-Z Validator 3.0

i7 oc'd by a guy in the overclocking team I'm in :
CPU-Z Validator 3.0
Benchmark stable at 4.2 GHz, HT enabled and watercooled.

*edit*
I'm also not going to try overclocking my pc at home again, it just doesn't like it at all :(

I'm a bit of an AMD nut, and have written several overclocking guides over the years. I currently have 9 Phenom 9850BE systems - one of them running at 3.51GHz on a 790FX/SB600 system (that wasn't supposed to even be possible, and is still a record for air cooling and SB chipset overclock) as well as this PII 940 system that held a small record for air overclock until a couple weeks ago.

WAY too slow
Managed to push the GPU to a new high today and was very happy with the result.

Kinda sucky I know, but it's good at least :(

And my computer runs sideless as I'm to cheap to buy a decent cpu cooler and all.

What are you on about?

The E8400 is an excellent CPU, 3.8Ghz is very good and you have a GTX 260, great job on the build.

Can't wait till I rebuild my rig this month and check out the benchmarks.

It just seems slugish to me though :(. Could that be how my wire managing is though you think? Also, should I attempt to OC my graphics card any, never have tried that before and this was the FIRST processor I've OC'd, so I feel good somewhat.

If I run sideless 24/7, would it hurt to OC my memory, gpu, cpu (more) or no? I wanna see if I can push my CPU to 4.0ghz or higher, think I can?

Well I currently have my CPU OC'd to 3.4Ghz but will be reaching that 4Ghz on watercooling in the next week or so.

I have also overclocked my memory and it has helped a lot, you can try and give your GPU a little overclock with Rivatuner, there's a lot of tutorials out there for it, so Google what you need to find out.

Go for the 4Ghz, a lot of people are doing it, btw what cooling do you have?

Well turn everything off and disconnect the power, take everything out carefully and place it on an anti static bag to be safe.

Reqire your whole case so the cables are hidden, it will take a few hours.

If you do buy a new cooler you will need to clean the CPU off with some rubbing alcohol and then apply some new paste, you can use Arctic Silver 5, spread it on and place the cooler.

Of course you do, how else are you going to cool the CPU, make sure the cooler fits your case though, there's a lot of coolers around so have a look around newegg, be careful though some aren't that good.
