Power Options don't retain changes: keep resetting

Folks,

I've spent about a week researching this and searching this forum. Sorry to start a new thread, but I have not seen anything definitive.

I have a Windows 7/64 desktop. It has a Power Options issue. It will not retain any changes I make.

Opening "Power Options" I select "Balanced". I change the plan settings to have the display go off in 30 minutes and the computer to sleep in 1 hour. "Save Changes".

Later, if I look, the options are not what I set them to. They reset. (1 hour and 3 hours? I forget...)

I've tried creating my own power profile. It, too, resets to the default of whatever I copied it from, rather than my settings. I've tried "Save Changes". I've opened advanced settings and also Change Settings that are Currently Unavailable. I've hit Apply and OK. The saves LOOK like they stick, but later, they are not there.

This is...unusual. (I have two other W7 machines with Power Options which work.)

I'd appreciate any pointers.

Thanks,
Ken

Hah! It did it again.

Using "Balanced" as the starting point, I changed the display to turn off in 30 minutes and the computer to sleep in 1 hour. This morning, as I woke my sleeping computer, I checked: Balanced is still selected, but now shows Turn Off Display in 1 hour and Put the Computer to Sleep as 2 hours.

Whether I set up my own customized plan or use a default plan, no changes I make to the plans "stick".

How do I make my recalcitrant computer obey my commands?

Ken

Maybe it's a problem with your User account ???

Do you have another User Account you can login to Windows with ?
If you do, login with that account and see if changes stick.
If not, create a new account, login to new account and change Power Options.
Logout, and login with your regular account.
See if changes stick when done from a different account...
