The Turn off hard disk after option is to turn off (spin down) HDDs after X amount of minutes of being idle (unused).

The "Sleep after" option is to put your computer to sleep after X amount of idle minutes.

It would be pointless to have he HDDs turn off at the same time you put the computer to sleep.

Hope this helps. :)

Hello Sasha,

You might not have hibernate enabled for hybrid to show up.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/819-hibernate-enable-disable.html

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I always enable hibernate by using the cmd command , but after every 2-3 reboots , hibernate is automatically disabled . Why is this .?

Hmm, I've never seen that before. You might see if running a sfc /scannow command may help if it's a corrupted system file at fault. You might also run chkdsk on your Windows 7 drive to see if there may be any HDD corruption that could be messing with the hiberfil.sys file.

I think this might be a dumb question, but I would like to know if power options work in safe mode?

Hello Maddy, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Not a dumb question at all. :)

Yes, the power options will work in Safe Mode.

Did you have any specific power options in mind though? I'll be happy to test it if you are having an issue with it while in Safe Mode.

Whatever you set and apply in power options while in Safe Mode, does stay set the same while back in normal mode.

every so often my PC (desktop) stops running..
not sure if this due to an incorrect power setting..

what settings should be applied if one didn't want any sleep or hibernation to occur
and which would therefore allow the PC to run at maximum power and performance at all times..??

I am running Windows 7 on a desktop and want to change the power level settings to Never switch off the display. I have selected the Balanced plan and changed it to do this but every time I boot up the computer it reverts to the previous settings. I have tried setting up a new custom plan but it still reverts to the Balanced plan when I reboot. How can I get the settings to "stick"?

Hello George, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Since this is Sony (OEM) computer, Sony most likely has it's own power management software that came preinstalled on the computer that is overriding Windows power settings like this.

If you find this software installed, then you could make the changes in it, or uninstall the software to use only Windows power settings.

Hope this helps for now, :)
Shawn

I'm having issues with the power plan.
I created an specific power plan, tried to modify an windows power plan, either way, I cannot change the torn off monitor and sleep after features.
Once I reboot the system it changes back to the default values.
I'm doing all this as an administrator.
What can be?
Thank you.
