Poworcolor 3850 AGP driver problems

Hey all,

I recently installed Windows 7 (64 bit) on my computer and I have yet to get working drivers for my Poworcolor 3850 AGP card. I've tried all the Catalyst suites, inlcuding those with hotfixes. I've tried manually installing multiple drivers through the Device Manager and still no dice. Everything else hardware wise runs just fine. Any ideas?

I'm currently running:

Cpu: Amd Opteron 180 Dual Core (2.4 GHz)
GPU: PoworColor 3850 AGP 5112 mb GDDR3

Two problems with your set up,

1. The chipset on your motherboard. It is the NF3 and Nvidia hasn't supported that since the last XP update from November 2005 (and never released a Vista driver for it). As a result of that I'm not sure what is being used for the AGP/GART driver, which is required for your AGP card to work properly. Have a look around here,

been a while, but pretty sure that I saw a re-mix of drivers for that chipset that worked with Vista; might get lucky and find something that will work with 7.

2. Your AGP card. Without the AGP driver mentioned above, you're going to have problems. Also ATI never officially supported that card (or any of the HD2xxx or 3xxx series in AGP), but they do put out the AGP hotfix driver for it,

Save that link as it will be the same every month when they release the hotfix, they'll just update the download links.

Sorry for the late reply. I checked into the nForce3 issue you mentioned and apparently that's my main issue..and it's extremely widespread for ATI/AGP/nForce3 users. It's sad that Nvidia hasn't released and updated set of drivers to work with Windows 7 but hopefully they'll get something working by W7 release, however doubtful. Thanks for the help tho.

Hey! A fellow 3850 owner. I'll set you up with my .inf to install through device manager. Place this over the original extracted one you have. Use the normal, non-hotfix 9.9 Catalyst.

Should be good if your hardware id is 9515.

If it is still giving problems because of chipset, in device manager under system devices, install the standard PCI-to-PCI bridge driver for the one that has AGP in the name, instead.

Ok, So I intend to give this a shot once I get out of work. How do I go about installing the standard PCI-to-PCI bridge driver and what effect will this have in relation to my agp/nForce3 problem?

Wondering if you tried this yet. If not, go to device manager. Double click system devices. Right click on the one listed with AGP (Nvidia nforce AGP host to PCI bridge?) and choose update driver software. Click browse my computer. Click let me pick..

The PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge should be there. Click on it. Hit next and let it install.

Rollback the driver if this hasn't fixed your problem. Don't forget to reboot after driver change, while trying this.

Hey, sorry I took so long to get back to you . I was on my honeymoon

Anyways, I tried changing the device ID and installing the pci-to-pci bridge like you suggested but my HD 3870 still isn't working correctly. Any new suggestions?

No, unfortunately. Stormy13 is correct in what he has told you. I've since researched the issue and there is no way for the hardware to work in Vista/7. That's NVidia dropping support on NF3.
