Hello everyone. I have a question. I will format my pc and will do a fresh install of windows 7 ultimate x64. How can i prevent windows from installing any driver? I want to install the latest drivers myself. Any ideas?

Thanks for your time.

Thank you for the link. The thing is, that when the windows start for the first time, they will automatically install drivers, won't they? I don't think you can change the settings in time. So, any other way? Maybe to login in safe mode and make the changes? Is it possible your first login to windows after format to be in safe mode?

My advice would be to turn off Automatic Updates at the end of the setup and then install your drivers, after that turn Updates back on
Works for me... (just a minor issue that from then on when you uninstall older drivers to install newer ones, 7 might reinstall them every time without asking but unless Im wrong that might be only the case if WU installed them..)

You can disable your internet connection and Windows can't update drivers - or anything else. However, Windows installs drivers during the installation process.

Then there is no way i can install them myself, only update them.

That is correct. Windows must have its own drivers to load properly and give you a desktop, let you use your mouse, and keyboard, monitor display, sound, etc. You can't improve on the Windows drivers; let Windows always take care of its own drivers.

Actually if there's a LAN or wireless card in your mcahine 7 usually installs a network (it does ask ask for a wireless password if the wireless network is secured)
But you don't need to disable net to disable updates.. it will ask you somewhere at the end to pick between 3 choices for Windows Update, which you can change when your 7 is installed either way
