I've read many articles regarding partitioning and the difference between primary and logical. Now I'm even more confused.
My intention is to generate a back up with AOMEI Backupper of my system. It contains two partitions System Reserve plus C:Windows and AOMEI will select both automatically.

My question is when I first generate a new partition, with enough space for both above partitions, should it be primary or logical?
Currently the C:Windows partition is primary.
Will it make any difference whatever I type I select during the partitioning generating process?
Naturally I will also have a CD to boot from should I need to restore my system.

Please advise before I make a mess of it which is very easy to achieve :o

It is up to you. There can be 4 partitions on an mbr disk. One of them can be an extended partition - inside which you can create additional logical drives.

The only practical difference you might notice is that logical drives cannot be marked active.

I would usually create 3 primaries and then an extended.

If you chnage your mind, many third party partition managers can convert primary>logical and vice versa.

Aomei partition assistant, for example.

It might be wiser to store your image backups on a separate disk, if possible. Because a backup image stored on the same disk is useless in the case of disk failure.
