Problem after installing Windows Update Agent.

Hi, I bought Windows 7 Pro 64 bit for my HP Pavilion Elite, and after the installation process I tried to install a number of updates, including SP1, which all worked fine, until I got an update for the Windows Update Agent...

"To check for updates, you first need to install an update for windows update. Your automatic windows update settings will not change.

To install the update, Windows update will automatically close and re-open."

This is where my problem starts, as when I run Windows Update, the scan commences, but for reason keeps on scanning!

I did an sfc/scannow and found two Microsoft Fix-It tools to repair Windows Update, but none of them helped...

Many people are having problems with W7 WU taking a LONG time checking for updates, especially after a clean install.
Let it run overnight and see if it finds updates available, and installs them.
imho W7 Windows Updates run slower because the MS servers are prioritized for W10.

Hi David, you were right, it took a long time to scan, without any apparent results, initially, so I went out to play some pool and when I got back home there were more than 200 updates available! Now I see the Windows message in my system tray to upgrade to 10, so all looks good, thanks for your intervention!

I've been having that but today they came through within 2 hours! :) It's after the update agent that there's the long search period - could be anything from 2 to 10 hours I think.
