Problem Installing SP1 - Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

Hi Noel,

The new manifest file has been added.

CBS & SURT logs attached. I had to re-run the SFC several times due to "Windows Resource Protection"

Jon

I'm having problem s working out what the errors in the current CBS log actually mean...
Having said that, there are a couple of very obvious errors in the SFC scan - but I can't work out to which file they relate!
Code:

There are very obvious bitflips in there

One of the files involved may be

but I can't find the other file ref anywhere.

There are another three failure points...

I think at this point, the only realistic thing I can offer is a repair install

Hi Noel,

I tried the repair install as you suggested but I received the attached error message. I've tried repair installs previously all of which failed which is why I did the clean install.

Could it be a service running in the background preventing the repair and the windows updates?

I'm totally out of ideas myself, so if you have any colleges you could ask to jump in for advice it'd be appreciated.

What are the chances of these issues being related to a hardware/driver problem?

Jon

What's the chances it could be a windows resource protection problem? Would it be worth disabling it and re-running SFC?

SFC uses Windows Resource Protection in its assessment - so shutting it down would prevent SFC from functioning.

Noel, would you mind taking a look at the new attached CBS log when you get a moment to see if those same errors are still present please.

Ive just noticed from the errors you posted that there are 2 instances which point to "d:\win7sp1_gdr\base" which is my DVD-ROM drive. Is that normal considering the Win 7 disc is not in the drive?

I'm just clutching at straws here now...

I've ran a scan with Belarc Advisor and the only update it could find missing was KB2870699, but nothing regarding KB2834140 which Microsoft Update continuously tries and fails to install. I have manually downloaded the x64 KB2870699 installer but it tells me that its not applicable to my computer and closes?

I wouldn't normally mind doing that, but I've already completed no less than 3 fresh installs, and each time ending up back in the same situation

After installing the OS, update the Windows Installer before installing any drivers - even the video drivers.

It has to be something being installed after the OS that is messing things up. To find out what that is, you might have to install the OS a few more times. Test after each driver install.

Is it ok to keep reinstalling windows like that? Are there not any installation limits within a certain period? I'm worried that if i keep reinstalling my copy of windows it'll be considered fraudulent due to the amount of activations?

The computer is more or less running ok except a few odd little glitches like not being able to install update KB2834140 for example. Is KB2834140 an important updated that desperately needs to be installed or can I live without it? My 2nd and last issue with windows update is that it repeatedly informs me that IE10 is available to be updated even though its already installed.

My final issue (I'm not sure if its related to any of the other problems) is that I keep receiving a randomly accruing error about the Nvidia kernel driver crashing and successfully recovering which mainly happens when using Mozilla Firefox.

The bottom line is that I need my computer for my work and after already completing several reinstalls over the last several weeks I now have all my programs and setting reinstalled and working. What i'm asking is...is there a way of fixing these problems without another fresh install of windows because I really afford the down time if there is a 2nd option...

There is no need to activate it until things are working.

When you see the Enter Your Product Key screen, do not enter your product key.

Also, remove the check by "Automatically Activate When Online" and finish the install.

That should give you 30 days before you need to do something.
