Hello everyone,

I am having a problem on recording my screensaver, whenever I use screen recording programs such as Camtasia Recorder or Snagit and open the preview or open the .scr file, it don't record the screensaver instead it record the desktop!
So what should I do to make the program record my screensaver? , if there is no way, is there a program to convert .scr to .mp4 or .avi or any video format?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

As far as I'm aware of, there isn't. You'll have to film it with a digital camera (they should all offer some form of movie capability) and then upload the resultant file to your PC for editing.

If it is really important for you, I think there is a workaround that would allow you to record a Windows Seven screensaver. This is just an idea, I have not tested it but it should work. it includes a bit more preparations but, as I said, if it is important for you it is doable.

Install any of the free virtualization applications, Virtual PC(*), VirtualBox or VMware Player. Set up a Seven virtual machine, you can use your own install media and use Windows on vm a few days without activation. Only if you want to keep it do you need a valid license.

When installed, start your new Seven vm. Start your screen capture program, expand Seven vm to full screen, start screensaver. When enough, exit vm full screen, stop screen capture on host and that's it.

Should work.

Kari

(*) Although Windows XP Mode is only available for Seven Pro or better, Virtual PC is available for every edition of Seven except Starter. See this post for installing Virtual PC on Home editions of Seven: http://www.sevenforums.com/virtualization/143367-hey-help.html#post1232299

Camtasia Recorder part of Camtasia Studio v7.1 works for me with the inbuilt screensavers but it's not free or cheap, but what Kari suggested should work well enough.

What screensaver are you trying to record?
