Hi,

I just bought new LCD that if full HD (1080p) and, of yourse, I'd like to watch movies in full HD resolution. The problem is that movies often won't start playing (I use Windows Media Center) and I can't figure out why. Movies in lower resolution (ie. 720p) play perfectly. The only problem are movies in the 1080p resolution. I tried several movies and every time is the same - I press play and nothing happens. It's like it is loading the movie forever... I must say that rarely I do manage to play the movie, but that happens in 1 out of 10 attempts.
I don't think my computer is too slow. My system's specs are in my CP. I would really be grateful if someone could help me. Thanks.

Regards, Sasha.

OK, sorry for not answering until now :)

If possible, I'd like to play 1080p movies in Media Center because I bought the computer for that purpose. So, I'd like to avoid using Media Player Classic if I can.

I don't think the problem is in the codec (I use ffdshow) because all of my 720p movies plays perfectly and sometimes (but rarely) I can get 1080p movies to play too.

I use D-SUB cable. Could that be the problem? I'm at work now so I can't try but I'll try connecting with HDMI cable.

A D-sub cable is not intended for throughput speeds needed for HD - I suggest the HDMI cable as your best option for best video on your hardware. Make sure you shutdown, unplug PC and Monitor power, attach the HDMI cable and when back in WMC re-run the TV setup.

That's very rare to find a 1080p resolution. Even DVD;s are only 480p,. some come with upscaling to make them rub at 720p.

Only some Digital Satellites (DirectTV or Dish) and Blue-ray disks are capable of 1080 p.

Just because it;s a widescreen it doesn't mean it will play 1080 p.

OK, I'll try with the HDMI cable.

@reghakr: I don't know what do you mean... I want to watch movies (mkv's) in full HD (1080p). I don't plan to watch TV in full HD because there aren't any in Croatia.

@reghakr: hm... I don't think that posting a 15 GB (size of an mkv movie in full HD) file is a very good idea... :)

Even if it would compress it 50%, it would still be a 7,5 GB file and that's pretty big too. I don't think that we're allowed to post that kind of links here. Sorry...

Also for a sample, you can search torrent sites for "HD music"

Look for any music video, since they are usually only about 4 minutes long or so.

On the biggest torrent site, there's a whole pack full of many HD music videos. Set the torrent client to download only the one(s) you want.

Make sure you have a quality AV product installed and running before using torrent sites, torrent sites are a hackers testing ground for new malware that also may not be caught by even the best AV products today. Tomorrow maybe, today, no. This is sound security advise and should be heeded by all.

Generally speaking, malware is not included in video files. Or any multimedia files. It is possible but you have a better chance of winning the local pick 4 lotto than downloading bad multimedia files with malware.

One need only read up through my link to discover that malware in media files on torrent sites is a major proplem, has been for some time, and will continue to be as long as people download files from such sources. I am not sure why anyone would disagree with the sound advise of every major AV vendor. If anyone can quote any major AV vendor saying torrent sites are safe, please do.
