Problem replacing Win7 Wordpad with older Wordpad

I've been following the instructions here and here to get the old version of Wordpad working, however I have run into a problem. I downloaded the old version of Wordpad provided in the second link, since I don't have Vista, but when I try to overwrite the existing version on my computer, it won't let me give it the permission necessary to do so. It passes one permission check, but then says I need permission from "TrustedInstaller" to change it, which no amount of clicking "Try Again" will solve.

Is there something I need to be doing that I'm not? Or is there some other problem that I'm encountering? Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks.

Simple copy/paste file would not work on protected system files.

You need to take ownership of a particular file

Then, change the name of the file original file from filename.exe to filename.exe.old
and paste donor file filename.exe in the folder.

(win7 wordpad.exe change to wordpad.exe.old and paste wordpad.exe from vista/xp/etc as well as other files if required)

I did the take ownership thing, but it still won't work. It says I need permission from "TrustedInstaller" to edit the original wordpad file, even after installing the "Take Ownership" shortcut and doing so.

In cases like this, when it is hard to get an elegant solution, I boot my Ubuntu Live CD (without installing) and edit windows files as I want them. And then take cd out and boot normally in Windows.

For person, who have never used Linux that sounds scary, but Ubuntu is very much the same as Windows in terms of easiness of copy-pasting files/folders.

Is there any way to do this without a Linux boot disc like you describe?

EDIT: I realized I could get it working, at least to use as an executable, by putting the .mui file in the same olduer hierarchy as it is normally (in an en-US folder). But apparently the version the instructions I linked to had was not the one found on Windows XP. Does anyone know where I can find the same one as XP had?

Have you tried this to solve trusted installer issues?

Yes, indeed, Wordpad from XP do not have to be replaced, you can start it in any folder.

Any XP files in desired language can be copied from installed Windows XP mode.
