Hey all. I have been trying for the last week to set up the trial version of Microsoft Office 2010 Home and Student on my new laptop, and I keep running into the same problem.

The download will get to Step 2 of 4, have about 7% of the download complete, then I will receive this popup message:

"There was a problem setting up Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010:
Cannot connect to the Internet to download required files. Check your Internet connection, and then try again."

Here's what I have done to try to fix the problem:

-checked the wireless internet connection (which, incidentally, is always at full strength when I get this message).

-uninstalled then re-installed the click-to-run from the Microsoft website.

-tried running the program as the administrator.

-tried checking the compatibility and re-configuring the compatibility for Windows 7.

I do not know what else to do and I am really getting frustrated so any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated. I should warn everyone ahead of time that layman's terms are the best way to explain what to do to me-I'm not very good at tech-speak if you know what I mean.

Thanks a bunch ahead of time for any help offered! :)

Hello huysernati,

Another alternative would be to contact Microsoft Technical Support via email re your issue.

I would imagine that they would welcome questions from a potential customer.

Well, I fixed this by updating my system. I have a Windows XP 32bit; it said that I needed Windows 7, Windows Vista SP 1, or Windows XP SP3...I downloaded Windows XP SP3 from the Microsoft website by typing in "Windows XP Service Pack 3 download" and downloaded it...Free of course...and right clicked on the setup for Microsoft 2010 and unchecked compatibility and it worked, although the downloading process failed a few times, I did it over and over x3 and it worked XD...Don't know if this answers your question or your question has been resolved.
