I am trying to set up a duo monitor display with an old dell m782 monitor I got for free from my school. My computer detects that its there, but there is no picture on the monitor. When I press the menu button it says MONITOR IN POWER SAVE MODE ADJUST WITH PC. in a blue and grey box that stays in one place. Ive tried the Self-Test Feature Check on the dell online manual
Documentation
and it still says the power save mode. This is on my desktop too, which in my system specs is before the /

Hi! IB,

Do you see a blinking green light on the monitor indicator?
Can you get to the OSD and reset?

From the documentation:
Power Management Modes

If you have VESA's DPMS compliance display card or software installed in your PC, the monitor can automatically reduce its power consumption when not in use.
Even though your PC can see it you may not have the proper card or software. Did windows offer to PnP to set it up?

Ib,

I did a search on the m782 at the dell site, and from what I've been reading; you might be better off trashing the monitor.

  • Best I can tell it came out in 2001-2002, and was designed to go up to win XP.
  • The driver I found for it is only 115KB.
  • The MS PnP drivers seem to work better than Dell's.
  • It has problems running on a machine that has more than 512MB ram
There are 'bout 23 threads with all kinds of problems See:
