Hello,

I previously had my OS at Windows XP, i have recently upgraded to Windows 7 which i much prefer. The only problem so far is that i cannot get my xbox 360 connected again so i can watch my shows, listen to my music etc. through the Xbox.

This previously worked at the click of a button on Windows XP. My xbox does not show up on windows media player 12, I have tried downgrading to WMP 11 which didnt work. I have tried adding the xbox as an extender of WMC but there is a configuration error??? I have tired doing all this with my firewall off etc. and had no luck. Does anyone know how i can get this connected.

Thanks

No I don't have any idea.

You could check services.msc from start menu search box. Copy and paste that to it, hit enter. Look to see that SSDP discovery is set to automatic and running. Do the same for Media Center Extender Service.

If you're running into lots of problems as it seems, I recommend using TVeristy as a superior (imho) alternative.

If you do, after installing, go back to services and disable the following:

UPnP Device Host
Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service
SSDP Discovery

Very well then. I think you'll enjoy it. When it asks, let it change the permissions in Windows Firewall. Check the box to tell it yes. It will do this near the end of install. Good luck.

I have installed that and added me external HD to the library etc. However my PC is still not showing up on my xbox :( for the record nothing came up regarding my firewall during or after installion. I did go to my firewall and checked if the program had been added to the allow list.

I have the exact same problem as you! On Vista it worked fine - I could watch movies and listen to music on my xbox without a problem. Now my xbox can't find my PC, yet my PC can find my xbox.

Will you go to your Local Area Connection Status for me and tell me if your IPv6 connectivity says "No network access".

I'm not entirely sure. Just trying anything that comes to mind really.

I know its definitely a Windows 7 problem, as my xbox can find my brother XP machine. Funny thing is though, I was able to find my PC on my xbox when I first got Windows 7, then i had network troubles and it stopped working.

Check router configuration to see that UPnP is enabled.

Mine is enabled.

Gareth: Are you using a network splitter to connect your PC + Xbox to the internet?

I'm also having problems... my external 1TB drive shared perfectly on vista to my xbox 360... i had to allow it thru vista, and also share the drive/folders for it to see the F drive under videos, under my computer name. After reformatting to Win 7 Pro... i cannot get it to work... Xbox sees the PC but only has two shared folders...

I share my drive and it won't show up under my computer. Also, If i try to change permissions/actions it says Access Denied on my drive.

Suggestions?

Problem SOLVED!

Here is what I did.

In the properties page of the DRIVE I went to security, advanced, change permissions, check off Replace all Child object Permissions with inheritable permissions from this object, also within edit for Everyone group, check off Apply these permissions to objects and /or containers within this container only (this is necessary since I get an access denied for changing the entire drives permissions, at first)

After applying both these settings I was able to delete the mysterious MSI.tmp folders that appeared on my drive after plugging it into Win 7, and I was also able to share the F Drive so that it would appear under my computer in the Xbox 360 video library, and I can now access all my videos and play them, once again.

I hope this helps someone as I was really frustrated that streaming videos from my 1TB external stopped working, and that I couldn't get sharing to work properly. And also there seems to be no info on the net yet about how to fix this. Maybe my solution will work for others with similar sharing problems.

To recap, make sure you have all the Win 7 sharing settings activated (might have to adjust security bit-key to lower), in drive properties go to advanced share settings and check off to share the drive, and make sure you have proper permissions to the drive under security.

I don't use windows medica center... I stream to Video Library-Computer-External Drive on the Xbox... in network grant share access and permissions to Xbox, so it will show up on the Video Library page... then in My Computer on Win 7, right click properties on your drive you want to share, and follow the steps I have above if your having problems sharing because of permissions (one of the main reasons it won't show up on the xbox if your connection to pc already works is your drive permissions which need to be changed to full control).
