Hi There,

i bought windows 7 ultimate installed it on my new 4TB HDD and it worked find then after week the HDD had a problem and i had to take it. they came me a new one as they didn't fix my last one. now my problem is that i can't use my windows 7 key on my new HDD as it has already been used so is there a way to deactivate my key so it can be used again or something else as i don't want to spend more money on a new key.

Thanks Jake

Go to 'Activate Windows' .
Click 'add another key'.
Enter the same key again.
Worked for me after an SSD upgrade on my laptop.

You can use that license on the same motherboard over and over again, your hard drive has nothing to do with that.

The worst that can happen is that you`ll have to make a toll free phone call, all the instructions will be on the screen.

All oem means is that windows was installed at the factory, and that was with a mass activation key, the key on the COA sticker is for you to use when you want to reinstall windows yourself.

There is no difference between what the manufacturer installs and what you can buy at the store and install, windows is windows.

The manufacturer just installs some useless software and usually creates a recovery partition, all of which can be done yourself.

Any more questions just ask :)
