Problem With Monitor and AC Adaptor

I have a 20" HP Monitor connected to my Compaq Presario V3000 Laptop. Everything works perfectly when I connect the VGA cable directly from the laptop to the monitor whether it's plugged in or running on battery power.

However, I just bought an HP QuickDock so that I can connect all my devices to that and have only one expansion port cable coming off the laptop itself. The VGA cable and power cable are now connected to the QuickDock, but when the AC adaptor is connected to the dock (or the laptop while using the dock) I get these weird faint waves in the screen.

I have tried to connect the monitor and laptop power cable to different outlets and also tried using a 3-to-2 prong AC adaptor plug on both cables with no luck. Anyone have any other suggestions? It works fine while the laptop is running on battery power but as soon as I plug it in, the waves return. Any help is appreciated!

Could be a bad connection between the dock and the laptop.

Or... some cable is bad or getting interference from an adjacent one???
