Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum.

Here's my current hard drive partition after a new fresh windows installation.(installed on 7th June)

The partition i decided earlier to install Ubuntu OS is now under control of my current windows 7 64-bit OS : [PEN DRIVE (Z:) 10 GB:]. bcoz this partition is now shown as System, Active, Primary Partition.

Now i need to make this 10GB Z drive as a normal Logical Drive, (without active, primary partition or system options) so that i can install Ubuntu OS easily.

Please Help.

Welcome to Windows Seven Forum.

I'm no expert on dual-booting, but I suspect your problem is related to the fact the wrong partition (the pen drive) is the active one.

The 100MB partition that Windows created during the installation is the one that should be marked as active because that is where the master boot record resides.

As SeaVixen has correctly pointed out, your Win7 boot partition System Active flag was transferred incorrectly to the Pendrive.

To correct this, use Diskpart to mark the Pendrive Inactive then mark System Reserved Active: Partition - Mark as Active, boot the Win7 DVD or Repair CD to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times to write the System boot files to the active partition. System Repair Disc - Create

or use free Partition Wizard to have a graphical picture to modify>Mark Active/Inactive, then click on the Win7 HD to highlight it, from Disk tab choose Rebuild MBR which may preclude the need to run Repairs.

Unplug the pendrive as soon as it is marked Inactive.
