problem with tonights ms update

using w7 32bit and office 2007

after tonights ms updates 14th sept cannot get one of tonights updates the office [kb2288621] to install

there is a an error found 80070641 windows encountered an unknown error.


tried several restarts, tried disable of norton, ASC and DAP.

anyone help please

Unable to install any update in both modes (even from Microsoft Download Center),required services not working.You can do that only in normal mode.

(not from Windows Update)

If it doesn't work please diagnose Office How to install the individual 2007 Office features or to repair the installed 2007 Office programs
try also "MS Fix It" from this site:Error code "0x80070646," "646," or "1606" when you try to install Office updates

If it also doesn't work reinstall Office.

office diagonistic crash after completing the mewmory 24/24 test and goes no further.

word and excel work ok, looks like a re instal of office. any other tips before i do this please

tried uninstall of office using ccleaner & revo both failed with same error shown below.

put office cd in tray and all options repair/instal/remove bring up the same error microsoft office home uninstal did not complete successfully.

where on earth do i go from here.

Time for a do over
Use sytem restore to go back two days before the problems. Set your update to notify and not install..Then letss not install, until we figure this out.

What have you done ?

Revo,CCleaner and other uninstallers are useless on Office and mostly MS applications!
You should let know us, you have problem with uninstalling it.Here are special remvers for Office,How do I uninstall Office 2003, Office 2007 or Office 2010 suites if I cannot uninstall it from Control Panel?

but note if you don't have it in "Programs and features" it also will fail...

even in critical situation (right click on program and choose "run as administrator")
but I can't promised it will work

tried your first option of microsoft fixit, but it failed to uninstall due to problems with windows installer how could i correct this, tried sfc but it reported no problems.

a bit worried if i try the second option i might have trouble reinstalling office, whats your opinion?

This is not problem with Windows Installer services but with installer for office! Try unofficiall remover or use System Restore if you have any good check point of course.

flavius, this failed too. also tried safe mode also still no luck.

i have an image somewhere will give that ago, but do not know how long office has been corrupt the image is 2-4 weeks old.

while i am hunting out the image any other options please

final straw came when todays ati driver update would not install either, wanted to fix by way of repair but now admit defeat and used windows7 own backup image recovery.

used the restore image for first time, was quick, easy and worked very well.

thanks to all who offered help.
