Problem with Toshiba laptop, this is not my laptop or my set up, it is a brand new Toshiba. see link

Toshiba Satellite® L750 Laptop Computers

Problem is that it keeps hanging up on the desktop everytime i try to launch an application or program. firefox, chrome, photoshop. it just gives me the loading wheel before evetualy not responding at all and i have to force shutdown.

for now i have restored to before a few updates. and it seems to be ok for the min. could some of the recent updates be causing problems?

This has SP1 installed at the mo.

.NET Framework 3.5.1 is the next available update but i have not installed it yet.

there is also a lot of locked files in my media folder that im not sure why they are there. they are somthing to do with Toshiba and it says not to delete them and wont let me into the others?

any ideas? :D

I`ve never once had an update giving 7 a problem. If it persists take it back and exchange it, Don`t think twice about it.

yea i find it strange meself that an update would give so much trouble. It has to be the laptop but i cant image its nothing i cant just remove from the computer myself.

Sorry this laptop also has an Intel core i3 cpu and 4g of ram!

OK i have now had to restart the laptop again because it froze on me again. i have hide the updates so its not them that was causing the problem.

im running in safe mode now.

when i tried to launch task manager the last time it hung up, then went black screen and then told the that

"system can not launch when CTRL+ALT+DELETE was pressed and press esc or shutdown" was something along them lines!

any one got an ideas??

AddRAM gave you great advice. Take it back!

But otherwise I would try restoring from the recovery partition or better yet download the proper Windows 7 .iso and do a clean install and you will not have to put up with all the Toshiba bloatware.

yea im just thinkin here about doing the recovery, will i need to burn the .iso to disc so i can install windows? id like to be rid of the toshiba stuff altogether tbh.

and also it could void warranty too if its hardware and i have to bring it back. i have no dvds to burn a recovery to now so ill try it tomorow maybe, going to try recovery for now!

Yeah, thinking about the warranty you ought to try the recovery partition first. I don't remember what F key starts it though, watch for the options during POST.

You will need a program like Imgburn to burn the Windows 7 if you want to go that route,.iso to a DVD, you can't just copy it.

I think you have 2 options:

1. exchange the laptop as long as this is possible

2. make a fresh installation with a 'clean' .iso that does not have all this Toshiba junk. Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life With that, make sure you have the driver for the Toshiba CD/DVD reader handy (e.g. on a USB stick). You should find that at the Toshiba webpage.

DO NOT, I Repeat, DO NOT attempt to install windows if you have a warranty.
If you do the recovery, you should be fine. As Bumpkin said look for the proper key to push during bootup to start the recovery process.

Some OEM's may refuse to Tech Support a Clean Reinstall but it will not void your warranty as courts have repeatedly ruled against this. It's your OS to do what you want with it. If one clean reinstalls and needs Tech Support simply don't tell them you clean reinstalled. And come here for Tech Support which is the recognized leader in the industry.

That said I would start with Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums.
You will learn a lot about your computer.

Never be afraid of Updates. Many programs need the latest Net Framework to run correctly so keep your Updates current, for this and security reasons as well as newer drivers delivered via Optional.

You can improve performance with these steps to Clean Up Factory Bloatware - Windows 7 Forums

Most tech enthusiasts prefer the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Have you looked at what came preinstalled from the factory? You might have a ton of useless bloatware applications wreaking havoc with your system. Last night I spent over an hour removing bloat from a Compaq Presario for nearly the same problems you reported. Before you return it or do anything else, see what's installed and report back - we can probably give you some pointers on what is safe to remove, which might solve your problem.
