Solved Problems in Bad Company 2

Okay, so I am no computer amateur -- I have built multiple systems and am a proficient programmer. But I have run into a wall here. My computer is VERY not mediocre, if that makes sense. It has an AMD Athlon II x6 1055T (@2.8 GHz), 4GB of DDR3 1333, and an AMD Radeon HD 6870 card -- way powerful enough to play Bad Company 2 on its highest settings. I have tested this theory, perfect frame rate at all settings up. But my computer has a problem. At some random time after starting Bad Company 2 (usually about 5 minutes later) my entire system seizes up -- completely frozen, dead, lame, useless, etc. The sound stops, the frame freezes, it responds to no input -- it essentially turns into a picture viewer for the last frame of Bad Company 2. I have tried everything from moving the graphics card to a new PCI slot (x16 of course) to reinstalling DirectX. All to no avail. Just to help you guys possibly give me some help, I can inform you that it is not the fault of a faulty card, as the same thing occurred when I was using my GTS 250 (you can see why I upgraded...). So: it is not DirectX, it is not my RAM (maybe), it is not my motherboard, it is not my graphics card... I am out of ideas. I would GREATLY appreciate any help that you could give me.

Thanks so much,
EneilShade

CPU affinity! Now that is not something I have thought of. Also: correction to my intro -- I have all the latest drivers for everything.

I will go try the CPU affinity, but I doubt it is that, as things that take 100% of all six cores (Blender for example) run fine.

Okay, I must greatly thank you, as that would never have come to my mind. How, though, can you permanently set the CPU affinity? It has fixed my problem, but the CPU affinity does not stay set.

I would, but it says "error in subscript 9" and problems ensue. I guess I will just do a quick Google search.

Ok Are you running any type OC software or afterburner for your video card, these items cause issues with BC2 I have seen this on my build once I uninstalled afterburner the machine would not lockup anymore.

I am running the Afterburner, but it has stock settings for it (as in stock clocks). Also: the affinity only delayed the crash, not prevented. I am still stuck.

Thanks, though, for your help.

Could be a PSU issue?
Also what temps is the CPU and GPU getting to? While your system is powerful enough to run it, I find bfbc2 at high settings gives any system a good workout.

I also don't think you'll get it to run on all cores, no games yet no how to from what I've read.

Hope u find a solution

Cheers

Could it be your onboard sound? You could try disabling it and see what happens. BC2 is a funny game for this sorta thing happening not that EA and Dice give a rats..there has been issues with all sorts and none of them have been fixed and EA simply don't respond to anything...why would they..you already gave them your money to buy it so it's a case of sod you as far as EA is concerned. I wish the *******s would go bloody belly up but that unfortunately is not likely.
