Problems installing wireless printer on home network

I posted a thread previously, but still no luck -even took my computer to a repair store.

I am on a Verizon FIOS wireless network. We have both a Toshiba and Sony computer. I downloaded the latest drivers for my HP Photosmart 6280 printer and was able to successfully install my printer wirelessly.

However, no such luck with my Sony. I download the same drivers, and it goes through part of the installation, but at some point I get a mesage that 'the system cannot find the file specified', and then it rolls back the install, deleting the download.

Can someone please help me with this issue?

Thanks.

Hi Linda, I think I can help. What is your printer? Did you make sure you let the download complete before attempting to install it? Make sure it says download complete

When looking at the printer properties you should see a port tab, there you should find the IP of the printer,, first see if you can ping this address with a solid reply... If not your connection is unstable & we should have a look at other options.;)

The printer is an HP Photosmart 6280. I am pretty sure the problem is not with the driver download, as I was able to successfully complete the installation on our other computer.

I believe the problem is with my Sony computer specifically - there seems to be some kind of file that is missing when the HP download tries to complete.

Before we moved and changed networks, I was easily able to install the drivers for my HP Printer to this computer and our other computer, so I can't figure out what has changed.

Thanks.

Linda,

Go into network and sharing center and click "change advanced sharing settings"

Do you have a public or home network? Either one, make sure file and printer sharing is turned on, as well as password protected and network discovery. See if that helps any.

What download are you talking about, the driver download? What antivirus program do you have?

Can you download other downloads? Or are you having trouble only in installing the driver?

I appreciate the suggestion, but I really don't believe this has anything to do with the printer or downloads - I think it has to do with my computer.

THanks for your help, but I give up.

Linda,

I am sorry to hear that. Did you find any solution to the problem? How do you mean when you say it is the computer's fault? Would you be able to pinpoint what is going on?

There are different ways to connect a printer to a computer. You can network a printer by connecting it to your network (router). That way it is available all the time (or you can set limits on availability). You might try this method and look up how one might do it.

You can connect the printer locally to a computer through a LAN connection. You can then share your computer with other computers, but you will need to have the computer that the printer is connected to logged on before you can print.

And I've never had a wireless printer before, so I am not sure if you can connect it to more than one computer. But my guess is you should be able to and it is curious why it isn't working.

On the computer that isn't working, it has a wireless adapter, yes? Does it have all its current drivers for it? Does it connect to your router via this method? Both of your computers would be wireless computers, yes?

I know computer stuff could be harrowing, but if you keep attempting to fix it, you might learn how to fix it in case the problem arises in the future.

You might also check the printer's manufacturer, maybe even call them to fin out how to connect it to your computer. Hope I've helped Linda.
