I am trying to install a fresh windows 7 to my computer where I was previously using win xp.

All the installation goes well but when windows are ran, I get BSoD (attached to this post)

I have downloaded the new drivers for my graphic card, suitable for windows 7 64 bit. I tried to install them via repair option with no luck.

Do you have any idea how to make this work?

hi Guljo, can you clarify your memory specs? Are you using 512mB DDR2? That would be below hte limit to install and run 64bit Win7.
Have you tried updating your BIOS. Latest version is 3.10 from Aug/2009: ASRock > Products > AM2NF3-VSTA > Download
Your problem seems to be with the ATI driver (atikmdag.sys). As you can't load it at startup (can you elaborate on that, you should be able to load the drivers at installation)

hey wallyinnc,

I have 5gb of ram.

I will install new bios immediately after I write this post and let you know if it has solved the problem.

About driver, here is what I did:

I downloaded the newest win7 drivers from ATI site and unpacked them, than I copied it to usb, than

I boot from dvd again/repair your computer/load drivers/found my drivers on usb, there are two files CH_87739 that can be opened (both are setup information files), I get the list of cards and when I choose mine the error: "the installation has failed" appears.

After I downloaded vista drivers directly from sapphire site the same are on ATI page and the same problem - "the installation has failed"

Tks guljo for feedback.
You might try to install with only 1 stick of memory. That is usually a source for problems. If nothing else 5GB is an unusual configuration.
Let us know

Thanks for your help wallyinnc!
I have two 2gb sticks and one 1GB. I have left in my box only one 2gb drive and the blue screen is gone wooohoo, but I get the following message:

The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation can not proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and than restart the installation.

Do you suggest me to install it all over again with only one stick?

Thanks for your help again!

Hi guljo, I am happy it helped.
the computer is probably detecting the change of hardware, or just the incomplete previous install. So, yes, if you reinstall, or run a repair install it should correct that. Maybe better just to start over with a clean install. I take that you had no data there, so it won't hurt anything, otherwise please backup any data and personall info first
If you are all set, please mark the thread as solved (upper right corner, report button, state solved)
I would also test your computer (run some benchmark test) with 4G and with 5G. It wouldn't surprise me if the performance with 5G would be not better or maybe worse than 4G. Memory will run at the slowest spec of the sticks installed. As the 1G is not paired, it might be hampering the overall performance.
Good luck!

Hey,

I have succesfully installed windows 7 to my computer, but only with one 2gb stick, when I have added another I get BSOD again. I haven't flashed my BIOS yet so this might be a problem. I will do this tomorrow, because I am super busy today. But I dont have a flopy drive so this might be a problem. But will give you more info about it tomorow. I have also had problems with my wlan card wmp54g, I will post something about this as well when/if I sole it.

Thanks for help,

guljo

guljo, you might have defective memory. That is anoter common cause for the installation problem. Have you always tried with the same 2Gstick or they both work when alone? You should run a memory test. Try memtest (Memtest86.com - Memory Diagnostic). You will burn it to a CD and boot with it. I would advise to run on the sticks separately. You should run it for several cycles, since sometimes problems do not show on the first pass.

I have run test on both mine memory sticks. They both have no errors. This is the memory I have: Geil gx24gb6400dc

Do you have any more ideas what might be causing this problems?

Thanks!

I have found the solution to this problem:

Boot up in safe mode with all your memory installed,
enter msconfig into start menu search and open, <boot> tab, <advanced options>
then edit the # of processors (1 per core) and maximum memory to what is installed (this is in MB)

The solution was posted by Jup HERE.

Thanks everyone for help, especially wallyinnc.

If you have the 32bit version installed, that is normal... 32bit can only address 3.44Gb of ram... You will need to install the 64bit version in order to use more..

Interesting. Guljo should have 5G and Win7 x64. But it is showing as 4G show in a 32 bit version.
Guljo, what does your BIOS say about your memory? I don't think your graphics card shares RAM with the system, does it?

yeah guljo with all of this experimenting did you switch to the 32-bit version?

Your original BSOD shows you definitely had 64-bit but now it seems you changed it.

Also, tell us more about your RAM. Give us some specs on it, such as voltages and timings. When mixing different brands/types of RAM you'll likely need to go into the BIOS and configure it to the least common denominator. That is, voltages and timings that each brand can perform stable under.

Even if you configure the RAM correctly, it won't always work. Maybe the RAM is just incompatible with each other. Or maybe the RAM is incompatible with the motherboard. It happens.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.
