Problems with logging in to my user account

Hi everyone,

Ever since the last update of my Windows 7 system I have been experiencing problems with my user account. When I click on my account and enter the password, I get the message that the computer is "preparing the desktop" and afterward I see a neutral background and I get the message that I have been logged into a temporary account. In the beginning, I just had to restart my machine and I would still be correctly logged in to my own account after 2-3 attempts. However, yesterday it took me about 15 attempts before I finally logged in.

Does anyone have an idea what's wrong here? Since these problems have started, I have made a second admin account on my machine just to be sure that I can still log in. This second account does not show any problems: I can log in to this account without issues. It seems that my pc is experiencing problems in finding the specific files etc. of my own account then.

I have tried to use the system recovery option, but this did not solve the problem. My computer is only 5 months old.

I really hope someone can help me out. Many thanks in advance!

Sounds like a corrupted file. I've seen it happen a few times; the easiest and quickest option is simply to move your user's folders into a new user - just write over the ones already there.

You will still keep all your files and preferences and you can change your username to match your previous account. Then you can just delete the other account.

Couple of things to note: make sure you are viewing hidden files and folders so that it copies the app data folder as well - this contains your user data such as web preferences and things like that.

Also make sure you copy your user folders and paste them into the other user, you don't want to cut them and the computer crashes!

Thanks for the tips so far!

Just to be sure. Is it enough if I open C: --> Users --> [myusername] and then copy-paste all the folders there to C: --> Users --> [secondusername]? Will that copy all the files I need (e.g., app data, my music, my documents)?

Just my advice and opinion, after fixing the problem get rid of the password. There is no reason to have one on a desktop.

How many users are on this pc ?

If you should allow someone to use your pc you would be logging them in anyway. If it`s your pc NO ONE SHOULD EVER be touching it without your say so, and they better dam not make any changes or delete anything. They have no right.

I agree. Unfortunately, some do not behave as we would like. Oh well, let us see if we can help the thread starter.
