Problems with my PC

Well, the problem has been solved.
Luckily, it wasn't a faulty component.
On the graphics card, there are two DVI-D ports. The monitor has a DVI-D cable and a VGA cable. What I didn't realise was that there was a DVI-D to VGA converter in the graphics card box. After putting that it, it works perfectly, and I am now installing Windows 7
I think the lesson in this is 'Always check the box!'
Thank you for all your help, it is greatly appreciated.
