Hi there,
A couple of weeks ago I have noticed that my Windows Experience Index shows that it has not been rated.
By clicking rate this computer it give me this message.

Capture 4.PNG

I did a check disk at command prompt (chkdsk /F) with no result. The check disk complete in a few minutes and by going to event viewer it does not show any off the check disk event.

I also noticed that I can not install updates. The updates for Windows Internet Explorer 9 (important update) failed, although I don't have
IE 9 nor IE 8 I guess.
Is'nt it strange?

It started when I installed a new HDD for my backups.
Also I have some doubts about my AVG AV working properly.
I am in the process of uninstalling it to put MSE.
That is why I want to do the backup/imaging but now I want to resolve this problem first.

Can anyone give me some support?
I will apreciate it.
Thanks!

IE 8 is a part of Windows 7. So having an update is normal.

Which update is it not installing?
It will have a KB234567 type number.
With the number I'll see if I can find a remedy.

Install the MSE and run a full scan. Delete what ever it may find if it doesn't automatically. This will be your active AV.

Then download and install Mbam free. Update and then run a full scan. This is on demand so it will not interfere with the MSE. It only works when you open and click the SCAN button. So leave it installed and every week or two run it as a double check. I do and a lot of others on the forum do also.
Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a free download that removes viruses and malware from your computer

At least we will know your PC is clean. It won't hurt.

The WEI problem I'm not sure???
Do the bug scans- that could be the problem- and I'll see if I can help with the update and see if things get better or stay the same.

Hi, Mike and thanks for your reply.
The last two updates that failed are the Windows Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems.
They does n't have a KB number.
Before that, 4 updates failed with KB numbers: 2925073 982018 2492386 2522422 2515325
Will I have to uninstall AVG first then install MSE?
Concerning the WEI problem can you give me a little more detail about the bug scan?
Will I get this with MSE?

Bugs as in a virus, trojan, malware. Yes you will get removal with MSE.
Sometimes Malwarebytes finds things other AV's don't so it is a good double check that the system is clean.

Yes uninstall AVG first.

Hi guys,
Hi Mike,
This is just a thought.
Could it be because of the 750 GB HDD that I have installed but not formatted nor partitioned that I am having problems
with the WEI rating of my computer?
I attached a image of my disk management.

Capture 5.PNG

Assuming this is the case, can any of you guys explain to me how to format and partition this HDD without an OS
just to use it for my imaging/backup's?
Should I do this with a third party program like partition wizard for example?
Can I do this with disk management in Windows 7?
Any help please?

Hi Pare,

Thanks for stopping by. Formatting and partitioning is easy in Windows 7; thankfully you don't need a third-party program to do it.

In the Disk Management window you have open, all you have to do is:
1. Right-click on "Unallocated" space, select "New Simple Volume"
2. Finish the wizard using defaults (unless you want to change the drive letter or change the default drive type from MBR to GPT, which is unnecessary)
3. After you create the volume, your drive should show up in Windows Explorer.

Hope this helps! Feel free to let us know if you have more questions.

Heather

Also, I noticed your WEI showed it might have an issue with a driver. Do you have any conflicts or any unrecognized devices in Device Manager?

Hi Heather and thanks for your reply!
By going to Device Manager there is no yellow question mark but at the sound, video and game controller
there is something peculiar i.m.o (could be nothing) but I attached a screenshot:

Capture 6.PNG

Can I just create this simple volume for now and partition it at a later stage when I know for sure how I would like to have my partitions?
Or should I format and partition at the same time.

Feel free to give me some advice on how to partition this 750 GB HDD in order to use it for my backup's

I am a bit confused. Should I have a primary partition or can I settle with a logical for my backup's
I heard different story's

Another thing that looks wrong is that your OS and boot partition should be Disk 0, perhaps that will change after you format the unallocated space.
Also you sound deives are fine...have a look at mine

Hi Britton,
I could not have a look at your attachment.
I get an error stating "404-file or directory not found"
I really would have want to have a look!
