Problems with Windows 7 booting

Firstly,I don't know if this messages is right alocated... I hope so. But seing the forums, I didn't know where to put this...

I'm having problems with the Windows 7 booting. I had installed Windows 7 and I wanted to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix in other partition. My surprise was when I was not get inside of W7. Looking for internet I could add the windows 7 entry on the Grub.

When I choose W7 in that Grub it doesn't get inside... it shows a "-" in the left-up corner and nothing more happens.

Then... I use the W7 cd...well.....USB version this time (I'm in a netbook). When it charges...I click on repair system. and it is capable to recognize that there is W7 partition. Then I have done a lot of things:

- Click on fix startup
- Click on promtp and do:
- bootsect /nt60 c:
- bootsect /nt60 c: /mbr
- bootrec /FixMBR --> here I had a problem, because it put a MBR that fails and then I couldn't enter on Ubuntu (I had to repair the grub).
- bootrec /FixBoot
- bootrec /RebuildBcd -> That said I don't have any windows partition. That is false, because it's capable to recognize it in before steps.

All of that I have tried didn't worked to me...any suggestion?

I'm no expert in GRUB, so unfortunately, I can't give you instructions for dual booting with Linux.

However, I can tell you how to repair the Windows 7 installation.

First, mark your Windows partition as active: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/71432-how-mark-partition-active.html

Then, run bootrec /fixmbr, bootrec /fix boot, and bootrec /rebuildbcd.

That should do the trick.

When dual booting with Ubuntu, you have the chioce of using Grub as your boot menu, or using the Windows 7 bootmgr as your boot menu. It would seem you have been repairing back and forth but not ever getting both Windows and Ubuntu on the same boot menu?

Grub is usually very Windows friendly and will automatically add a Windows menu entry. Since the introduction of Grub2, we must know which version of Grub you are going to use because the instructions are not the same. The link at the bottom of this post shows how to repair Grub2 and add a Windows menu entry.

You can also use the free utility EasyBCD2 to add a Linux menu entry to your Windows 7 bootmgr menu.

Attaching a screen shot of your hard drive map from Drive Management to a post would also help.

If you're sure the Windows partition is marked as active, try a startup repair. You may need to run it a few times.

thank you so much!!, I'm on my W7... now I would try to add the linux entry on the windows startup like said iseeuu with easy bcd....

Finally I needed to reinstall ubuntu...but now they are working rightly, thank you!
