Problems with Wireless N Router

I installed the Wireless N Router like the manual said, connected my parent's pc (PC1) to it using an Ethernet cable and connected my pc (PC2) which is upstairs using Power Line Communications (Internet over the electric lines).

The problem is that PC2 doesn't recognize the network it's connected to and isn't allowing me to access the internet. I checked my router and it confirms that PC2 is connected to the Wireless N Router. How can I identify this network to PC2? I've already searched the official website and read the manual.

I'm a complete noob when it comes to stuff like this...

I havn't used the power lines for the internet connection yet so not sure about how that works, but I think you might have better results using a standard eithernet cable or using the wireless N connection.

You might want to post a screen shot of the problem machines ipconfig /all to determine if the machine is connected using the correct default gateway or not.

Just type ipconfig /all into your command prompt then hit "enter" and post the results here.

As I suspected your router is not giving you a default gateway at all = no connection.

You can look up this info for your router and then type it into your IPv4 properties window. Or you can give me your routers brand, and model number so I can look it up for you. I can't say for sure if your problem is being caused by the wires or not, I have not dealt with those at all.

Most likely your router needs a firmware update in order to work properly with Windows 7 or you can try using an eithernet cable for this connection.

It's a D-Link Wireless N Router DIR-635.

So uhh what do I fill in and where do I fill it in.

OK now we know what your default gateway is but for some reason your network isn't picking it up so you can try typing it in manually into your IPv4 properties window.

Open the Network and Sharing Center by right-clicking on the network icon in the System Tray at the lower right-hand corner of your screen. Once there, click Change Adapter Settings on the left side of the window.
This will take you to a listing of your installed network adapters. Locate the adapter you’re using, right-click it and select Properties. In the Connection Properties window, select the Internet Protocol Version 4 line (shown above) and click the Properties button below.
Once in Properties, click the Advanced button, and use the Add feature under Default gateways to add your router’s IP address.

In your case enter 192.168.0.1, Once entered, click OK and/or Close until you’re out of the network configuration windows. Reboot the machine and see if you have a connection. Check your ipconfig /all to make sure that the default gateway you entered is there.

I believe the reason this is happening is because your router is at it's EOL "end of life" and therefore is no longer supported by D-link. Because of this there are no firmware updates which would allow your router to work with Windows 7. So this is only a work around for a firmware problem has I originally suspected.

Supposidly the firmware on this page is supposed to work with your DIR-635 but use at your own risk.

Still nothing, I noticed PC2 is listed in the 'LAN COMPUTERS' part of the router config. (Don't know if this helps)
