Solved Program opens instead of My computer, documents, pictures etc

For the last few days when I go to my computer, control panel, devices etc from the start menu a program opens instead. If I right click on some of them I get the chance to hit open instead of the other choices and that works just fine but on the ones such as control panel where open is the only choice then it opens the program. At first the program was Duplicate File Pro and I unistalled that, then it went to Disk Sorter and I unistalled that then it went to Files 2 Folder. I did not unistall that. When I go to my computer and right click Files 2 Folder is the default choice. I did not choose for this to happen and I am not sure how it happened but I want to fix this. I have run chkdsk, sfc /scannow, Disk Cleanup, malware bytes and got rid of a virtual drive but nothing has helped. Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

It's a file association problem.

Have you downloaded CCleaner free and giving the Registry a default clean?

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately nothing has worked so far. I did ccleaner and nothing. I tried the lnk download but it kept saying can't import because not all data was successfully written and some keys are in use. I tried lnk. Since under default for start menu it talks about lnk. I am the Administrator.

I tried safe mode and still would not work to merge than I tried another searching for link and fixes and it merge but no change. Is this a link problem or something else. I am so very discouraged!!!!

I talked with Asus who makes the computer and they said that the only thing to do is to reset the whole computer which is not happening. At first it said that I had a corrupt roaming profile.

Do you have a Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1 installation DVD, if so you could try a Repair Install.

Restore point or system image before you issue started?

Unfortunately no restore point from before. I tried installing another copy of files to Folder which is a shell over the other to see what the change was and it this came up
Explorer.exe Error “This file does not have a program associated”


I reset from before cause it some ways it made it worse. I read about trying to download the folder reg item going to try.

I fixed it I just went into regedit and looked under folder shell and Files 2 Folder was there so I just deleted it and now things are ok again. Thanks for all the help.
