compMgmtLauncher opens instead of windows explorer

i cant seem to access any file directories, as though windows explorer wont run perhaps, but i can use programs, chrome, avprecorder, etc....

ps
when i try to open my control panel or any specific directory with a taskbar shortcut, i get an error saying there is no program associated with the file

any ideas would be helpful. thank you

Hello Matt, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if downloading the Folder and Directory options in the tutorial below may be able to help. It will restore their default associations, and hopefully fix this for you.

the problem with this resolution is i wouldnt know what the file extensions are for normal file directories in my system. i would think .exe as windows explorer is an executable, but i can run most other programs.
i cant open control panel, windows explorer, or even right click things(folders desktop, icons, shortcuts) for an options list

neither the folder, lnk, ddl, directoy or library regs worked ...

Well, back to plan B then. You could do a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before you had this problem to hopefully undo and fix it for you.
