Programmers and Coffee

What is it with programmers and coffee? i.e. Java's name, "keep a plentiful supply of caffeinated drinks around" as a tip listed in a programming book I have, my programming professor seems to constantly have it, etc. Just thought it was kinda funny, programmers seem to be obsessed with coffee.

Not really. We have some junk brand coffee here which most employees avoid in favour of the tea. Many of us IT techs here don't drink either and instead use the cold/hot filtered water dispensers.

I used to get buzzed on coffee but the see-sawing of highs and lows got annoying, now I stick to plain water and feel much better for it.

I still enjoy a cuppa every now and then, usually on weekends.

Myself, I prefer either a cold drink or, if I'm having a hot one, hot chocolate.

I can't declare myself as programmer because I have started to learn Java, but when I'm studing I'm consuming cold drinks.
When I was learning for the faculty, was drinking cold drinks and eating some chocolate.

While not a programmer, I am an IT guy for a software development shop. Personally, I cannot stand coffee.

I'm studying C++ and I drink mostly drink tea and coffee

Anyone know how to gain some form of certificate for programming without going to university, I'm home - studying at the moment whilst doing A-levels at school. I don't feel university is the right approach for me.
