Ps3 to PC (W7) wired network not working

Hi,

I'm new to networking and have never tried a wired connection from my ps3 to pc(made one wireless connection last year on home pc). Im using a Vodafone dongle so no router. I have connected the two via ethernet cable and the connection is there but "no network access" is below the Unidentified network. tried a couple of different things but no luck. If anyone has the time or inclination to help, it would be much appreciated.

Have you tried to create a home network or adhoc network.?
In network settings one of the questions when you setup is do other users connect through this PC, say yes. and continue with set up.
