Purging the prefetch files

Befor I reg'd I was asking purging perfetch files, I saw posts saing it was ok but did not speed up your pc. Using a registry clean up program would however, I used one once and it caused issues with programs connected to plaing TW08 (OL) and I was forced to reformat. The good reviews I saw came from those running w7 32bit and I'm running w7 64bit coukd that have been the difference.

Registry cleaners are useless and can damage the registry resulting in major problems, including BSODs.

I suggest that you leave the \windows\prefetch folder alone as well.

Windows 7 really does not need optimization help. Cleaning temp files out is prudent.

Yes I usally clean temp as well would it also be OK to clean up the %temp% and superfetch

The only time you'd want to clear prefetch would be right after installation during a corporate deployment. Otherwise, clearing prefetch just slows Superfetch and Readyboot down, and will actually make the system slower unless you have an SSD (and in that case, Superfetch and Readyboot are disabled, thus clearing the prefetch data does nothing either way).

What is the reason for the desire to clear the prefetch in the first place? What's the actual issue here, and perhaps we can help with that?
